How to change name of device in settings.fit file

Title pretty much says it all, I did a "stupid", and copied files from a fenix 5x that I had, over to my new Fenix 5+. However, I didn't realize that the name of the device, as shown in the Bluetooth section of my phone had Fenix 5x as the device. So, I have to return my "new" 5+ to Garmin, and decided I want to correct this. I found in the settings.fit where the name "Fenix 5x" appears, but am afraid to edit the file with "Text Editor". The file apparently contains all of my settings, widgets, watchfaces, registration numbers, so I really don't want to go through all of that again. Is there a "SIMPLE" way to change that "Fenix 5x" to a "Fenix 5 Plus, or Fenix 5+", whichever is the correct way shown?
TIA

    OEAGLEO, nice :o

no need to change, Garmin has special tools to correct this

for your own feeling did you try clearing all bluetooth related settings and connections, phone and watch
did you try a full watch reset to default
when nothing from the above helped, post or share the settings.fit here

  • Well, I've sent it back to Garmin today, they wanted it because it kept rebooting in the middle of an activity, and the HR was cutting out for short periods of time. I'll obviously remove the "old" F5+ from the Bluetooth settings, and the watch has already been reset. What I was trying to do is to be able to use the settings.fit file in the new watch, as I do with the activities, courses, etc, and get away from having to remember/find all of the registration messages for the new watch. Well, probably not going to be much of a problem, I've taken screen shots of the appropriate settings when the watch was still connected, so I have "all" of the information. Trouble is, I've never re-configured anything without forgetting "something"... :-)
    Thans for the info

    you are welcome :)

aha, feel free to post the settings.fit file
and I give it a try with ">ANT+ FITSDK">ANT+ FITSDK and a bit of magic with a HEX editor

  • For piece of mind, I set up a new watch as a new watch from scratch. Doesn't take too long and it's a great way o get reacquainted with the menus. Not that I ever add much anyway, but I always use the watch ‘as is’ for a few activities before I and any extras.
