Help me understand traningload (I tried to read the manual)

This week I have been relaxing because last week I did a lot of workouts (running 50km+ and two hard strength sessions). This week I felt a bit low energy and the watch say I was NOT PRODUCTIVE. So from my understanding that means that i need to rest also right?

Therefore this week I have had two very good rest days. One was even in a spa :) and I have only run once (20km) and did one strength session. The watch before the run yesterday say that I was detraining (not want I want to hear...). After the run yesterday (i chose trail running because I was in the trail) the watch say I'm unproductive again. How to deal with this? Is it the watch still figuring out my schedule or am I doing something very wrong?

I haven't been using the watch for more than 3 weeks so not enough data?
  • Training load calculation can be a bit confusing. I'm using both what the Fenix is saying and the fitness trend of the Elevate plugin on Strava. Hard to know what to do, Training Load says I'm not productive (with my load decreasing, although I ran ~100 miles in 2 weeks, which is a lot for me). Fitness Trend puts me in the Optimal segment... I would understand better if Training Load was saying that i'm over training. It seems to focus more on the heart rate intensity than the Elevate calculation. So it's a bit difficult to know who to trust honestly. Garmin doesn't show how much each training is impacting the load, so it's a bit hard to understand (my load went down significantly on Sat, while i was doing a 3h40 run ??). At least with Elevate, the impact of each workout is quite clear. I find it more relevant in my current situation (working more on endurance than on intensity and speed). But maybe it depends on your goal.

Not Productive is not necessarily negative - it's just saying that you're not really increasing your VO2Max with your current training, it's a sign of you're doing extra work than usual but not seeing major benefits from it.

Trail running (by design) does not update your VO2Max figures - because by its very nature, it's a chaotic run compared to a simple road run. So the VO2Max wouldn't increase and it would stay at it's old figure, and hence so would the status.
