7.10 Post activity battery... increasing (?)

Today I did a trail running activity with GPS+GALILEO, Phone connected, Spotify, external HRM and course navigation with maps loaded. So everything was enabled and full consumption was logical. I started with 85% battery and after 2:15h of activity I ended with 46%. I noticed that the battery percentage now is increasing instead of decreasing with the previous firmwares. Now l, after 2-3 hours I have 51% of juice.
  • Wooow nice, self charging thru your arm movement :p;)
  • Mine is erratic as hell. Totally fed up with this sh!t. I contacted Garmin and I'm getting a new one soon, nr3...
  • I already wanted to answer yesterday but the forum was not correctly handling my login (it's really time for another forum-software, looking forward to it...)

    Anyway,

I had exactly the same behavior coming from 6.71beta. The watch was at 98% with 6.71 when I installed the 7.1 version. (I also did an additional power-off/power-on cycle after update)
It stayed there, I went out for a 2h30 run with Stryd/music and came back: 48% (and that shocked me to be honest).
I was more than surprised that the watch reached 52% again within the next 2 hours and stayed over 50% for some longer time.
The next run (w/out music) was using too much battery again. Well at least the display said so, at this point I was already sure that the problems will be gone after next charge.

Long story short: one charge-cycle later everything is back to normal. I just believe that 7.1 firmware had to re-learn the battery again.
  • Mine has just done exactly the same. 42 minute run 3 hours ago went from 15% down to 7%, and has now risen back up to 11% and climbing over the past 3 hours.
didnt see this in previous releases.
I suspect these issues have always been there. Looks like they may have had a very long time constant filter on the readings to smooth out the discrepancies (which would cause an apparent post activity battery drain). Now they've removed that (or reduced it's time constant) so it's more realistic but exposes other underlying issues (like battery recovery etc...)
  • I did notice the same behavior that I hadn't seen before.

During the activity the battery drain is much higher than before (10%/h in GPS mode, 8%/h in ultratrac mode)

After the activity, no battery consumption for hours, sorta compensating the excessive battery drain during the activity.

Not happy with that, I preferred the older version of the FW
