Battery usage after update from 6.72 beta to 7.10

Hi,

I have now Version 7.1 since a couple of days and have the feeling that my battery % is going down more quickly than with the last beta 6.72.

I have not seen this using the last 3 or 4 6.xy beta updates, the battery % was always very simelar.

Is there any "recalibration" of the battery neccessary after a major firmware update?

Best regards,

  • Battery usage is greatly increased by code introduced in 6.71. It’s gone up about 3x for me at ~1.0%/hr.
  • Same here with my 5x+ and my wifes 5s+. 3 hours of hiking with routing and my battery was down from 75 % to 35 %. After stopping the activity, the battery says 43%... very strange.

The 5s+ had a battery drain in those 3 hours from 80 % to 9 %. After stopping, the watch says 13%.

    Stefan.
  • Moved from 6.72 to 7.10 and battery appears better, but it's very soon after update to give clear indication. Did a 2h23m cycle today, full gps etc, dropped only 10%.
  • Hi,
    are you allready on 7.1?
If yes, what is your experience so far (with 6.71 and 6.72 I had also no problem)

  • For me, the power consumption of 7.1 looks quite ok
  • I am experiencing the same thing. I got the 7.1 update on Friday from the 6.72 beta while charging to 100% and did my regular type of weekend activities (6 hour hike on Saturday and 1 hour on Sunday). my watch was at 5% this morning by the time I got to the office.

I'll be watching more closely over the next week.

Battery burn rate is ~1.3%/hr now, up from about .7%/hr on the 6.72 build. This is with no activities, and normal run mode.
  • I have a similar problem. Check in garmin connect app on Garmin Devices if your watch, after finishing syncing have the "Connected" status or "Sending Software Update". If you have "Sending Software Update" your battery is draining faster. I connect the watch to garmin express, sync and restart the watch. After that , the status on Garmin connect app was "Connected", and the battery was ok.
  • I'm on 7.1 and I'm on track for 5 days from full to empty with 24 hour pulse ox monitoring, wrist HR, ~30 minutes daily walk with GPS and ~90 minutes indoor cycling with chest strap, power etc. each day. Battery widget is currently showing consumption rate of 0.835% per hour after ~2.5 days since full charge. This is far higher than my F3HR, but I did not record walks or have pulse ox, obviously, with that watch.

Not sure if that's good or bad as I've had the watch for just one week (brand new purchase). It seems reasonable, I think.
  • Same here, battery draining is more important with version 7.10
  • Hi,
in my Garmin connect android app I have not seen a status "Sending Software". I was waiting a little bit to see whether the firmware update will be possible also via the Connect app (I think it is described that the firmware update could be done either with the app or with the Garmin Express), but it was not not, I made the update via the laptop and Garmin Express. After each firmware update I let the device reboot, settle a little while and do a reboot again. I do not know whether this is "Vodoo" but I have the feeling that this is bringing back the normal battery usage. At least during the last couple of beta firmwares.

Now after some more days with 7.10 I am getting the impression that batter consumption is more like before - or in other words: better. But I need to monitor this for a longer period

This is why I was asking whether after a official firmware update the battery needs a recalibration like a smartphone if you delete the battery history, it needs a discharge, recharge cycle that the battery could be monitiored corectly. But I have no experience with that on the Garmin Fenix device.
