Cannot pair RD-POD (ant broken?)

Hi,

I have a brand new Fenix 5 Plus with firmware 6.0. I cannot pair my Running Dynamics Pod with the watch. I have tried two different pods, and several batteries. The watch just searches for the device, and does not find anything. Bluetooth is working fine.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

I'm considering returning the watch, as I suspect the ANT-part in the watch is broken. This is actuality already a replacement watch. The first watch had a broken gyroscope-sensor, so no steps count and so forth.

I hope I have just been extremely unlucky and that this is not a general indicator of the quality of the product.

Best regards
  • Might be worth trying to install the latest beta and see if that helps. I think Garmin sometimes get so carried away with their betas that they forget they haven't actually updated the current stable release for nearly 5 months, despite a lot of issues with that release having been fixed for a while now in the beta ring.
  • Are you sure the pod is awake? To wake it up attach it to your belt and have a short walk or run.

I have also had difficulty connecting my RD pod. Initially had no troubles, then unable to connect. Replacing the battery worked initially, then I again had trouble connecting (and yes all the usual things such as making sure the pod is awake, restarting device, deleting previous connection and trying to add new device did not work). Eventually stopped trying and haven’t used the pod in months...

Hi, thanks, I might try the beta. But something like ANT+ should work on the latest stable, I reckon ..

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have been shaking it like was no tomorrow before trying to hook it up. Just like Garmin and Youtube suggests
  • I noticed that sometimes shaking it in your hand is ineffective, depending on the way you shake. Perhaps the sensor needs more "bounce" to wake up, i.e. I noticed that for example when I start walking sometimes (but not always) the pod remains asleep, until I start going downstairs or start running.
  • Do you have another ANT device like a HRM or Tempe you can use to check ANT in general?

Hi, I've been trying all sorts of movements, including walking around with it. Thanks for the input anyway.

No, unfortunately not. But this is the second RD-Pod, so I suspect it might be the watch ...
