Altimeter/Barometer Settings

What are the best setting for the most accurate elevation during activities?

I have the following set now

Auto Cal
During Activity- Continuous
Not During Activity- On

What is the best setting to use for Calibrating -use current elevation or DEM or GPS?

Barometer has Plot 6-12-24-48 options
Watch Mode is set to Auto

Does Climb Pro, Auto Climb, 3DSpeed or 3D Distance effect elevation?

I have Climb Pro set ON, Auto Climb OFF, #D Speed OFF and 3D Distance OFF

If you are at a well defined terrain level - meaning that there are no sudden terrain drops or climbs 2 meter from your position, and you are not in the air, on a bridge, etc. - use DEM.
If you are not at a well defined terrain level, but you know your exact altitude from a reliable source, use manual input.
    Otherwise, use GPS.

I switched to DEM and ran 2 days in my neighbourhood and got 0 gain. I do live in a flat area but with GPS setting I was getting 15-25 ft of gain on same runs. Could DEM be more accurate?
  • In a normal situation - such as I described in my previous post - DEM should be much more accurate than GPS. GPS has a lot of altitude noise, which is the reason for sport watches having a barometric altimeter.
