Fenix 5X Plus battery health

I just bought my Fenix 5X Plus at my local store. I asked them if the product has been in the store for a long time and they said no we just got them (Don't believe them actually...) The reason I asked that question is because of battery health. Batteri is supposed to be fresh(ish) and will degrade fast if they are left without charge for a long time.

When I got home and unpacked the watch, It was drained of course and I think it's been in the store for many months (not many people buy this expensive watch here in my town).

The question is: Do I need to worry about the battery? Will it perform or will the time it's been without charge degrade the battery? Should I return it? I just want this watch to last me several years and starting with a potential bad battery is not good.
  • I would not worry. The batteries don't really get their full capacity until 2-5 full recharges. But a tip - don't disconnect the moment battery says 100%. Leave it for 1/2 hour longer. That roughly gives me an extra day of battery. Garmin battery monitor % is not super "reliable" :)

But keeping track of battery life can be an issue. Install a battery monitor and a few of them require you (for best tracking) to open the app when you finish charging. Then you will get the best results.

When I train a lot (5-10 hours a week) i get about 0.4% power consumption average / hour - with zero training i'm at 0.2% per hour (both with PulseOx off)

But for the first few weeks you will probably have higher battery drain as you "use" more features for setup and learning.

    /k
  • Thanks Kaz911 and Geroelltrampel for excellent answers :) I will keep it and monitor the battery. Have 30 days to return if I find some problems.

One weird thing was that when I was charging it the first time, after several hours the charge was 60% and then I wanted to check something on it and then it suddenly just went from 60% to 100%... Is that normal?

Seems the battery is good enough. I've been on one hike and 2 long runs (with music also) and had the watch on for 4 days and still have 56% left of juice...

Same here. First time to charge my 5x plus. It went to 60 percent after around 1 hour up. Then suddenly when i checked it its 100 percent. I unplug it and my watch face says 60 percent.
