Selective notifications on iOS

Can someone tell me how to get selective notifications on your 5+ using an iPhone? I don't want them all coming through to my watch, only small set of apps, such as iMessage and WhatsApp - nothing else. I know I read somewhere you need to make your notification only temporary or something but I can't find it now.

That is not possible - each notification in the notification center of the phone will be pushed to the iPhone.

OK I have done some more digging and searching. In IOS12 if you go into the applications notifications setting and turn off the 'Notification Centre' option. This stops the notification from appearing on your watch but it still appears on your phone. The only downside to this I can see, if you unlock your phone then this notification is effectively lost from the list. The badge is still kept up to date though.

Better than nothing and saves you from being inundated by watch notifications all day!

Ok, the same problem, but if you turn notifications off, you don’t receive them neither in you iPhone, do you?
