Also posted this in a Fenix 5+ Facebook group, sorry if you’re seeing it twice.
Two questions:
1) On the Fenix 5+ titanium (orange strap, silver-ish/titanium colored hardware, which I have enjoyed very much for months), has anyone else tried changing the torx screws on the watch band or buckle, only to have the torx screws head get stripped? It happened to me on both 5+ band screws and the buckle screw, using Garmin torx screwdrivers.
This did not happen for years when I would change bands on my Fenix 3 or 3hr, where you had to remove the screws to change bands. Those screws were black. These screws on the 5+ titanium mode are silver-ish. I’m wondering if the different material is softer and strips easier, if they are locked tighter and are not meant to be unscrewed or if I just messed up three times in a row after not messing up before.
2) Can anyone recommend a place to buy replacement screws the same silver-ish color from the titanium? Or an entire OEM buckle the same color as the silver-ish one from the orange band on the titanium model? All OEM replacement bands have black buckles and screws. I’ve seen someone looking for a replacement buckle in the forums (to no luck) and I’m not seeing any screws or buckles that color on Amazone or Ebake. Sent an email to Garmin support over the weekend but they haven’t had time to respond yet.
Most importantly, I want to be sure the screws are tight. I can’t tighten them now or even check how tight they are. They could be replaced with regular black 22mm torx screws, but I’d prefer the original color and wish the original ones handy all been stripped.
Without posting much, I appreciate all the insight you’ve all shared here. It’s been very helpful to me.
