Fenix 5X plus widgets uninstalling themselves

I keep having my widgets uninstalling themselves. This has happened at least 4 times today. It normally includes the Weather; Notifications; My day; ABC; Calendar; Steps.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Training Status; Last Sport; Music have never been affected.
  • I’ve learned the hard way with this. I wholeheartedly believe it has to do with Garmin Connect and it starts with the Activities. Whenever I’m setting up these watches, I try to make as little change to “Activities” as possible. Set your Activities first, THEN your set Widgets.

For some reason, the watch wants to default back to the stock Widgets when the Activities are changed/added. What you’re seeing (Widgets) is part of the stock setup.
  • Thanks for the heads up Odie21. I can confirm that I did add 2 custom activities before the widgets disappeared the last time, but previous to that I hadn't.
However, maybe it happened previously because I changed the watch face ??? I do like changing the watch faces depending on what I am using the watch for.
  • To me it looks like something in the XML communication between Garmin Connect and the watch that goes wrong - causing the watch to reset widgets to default. I have reported it to Garmin multiple times over the last 2 years (happened on 5x HR as well)
  • Have the Fenix5x+ only since a week and saw the same that the widgets were set back to default. Was driving me crazy because you ask yourself what you have done or not done 20min ago while playing with the new toy ...

Would be very nice to fix this glitch.

    Best regards,

While not nearly as frequent, I have had my widgets reset after downloading custom watch face from the CIQ store. It has never happened when I changed around a stock face though.
  • Everyone, I want to look into this some more but I have not seen this myself nor been able to reproduce it since this thread has started. So that means I am either missing a step or overlooking an important piece of data. So could someone provide me with a step by step process to reproduce this? Also, could you confirm your software version on your fenix and let me know which widgets you are choosing too.

Garmin-Heath This started on my 935 early last May, along with many others, with the Fenix series and 935 watches. I had an "escalated" trouble ticket with the engineer team. I sent them numerous copies of my watch's files and with files from Express. They were very good with contacting me every two weeks for six months, and then out of the blue the problem stopped in December and hasn't happened again. No updates, no patches. It just stopped. The engineer are aware of the issue, but they're still stumped.
  • Just yet another “bug” with the Fenix 5X plus!

    So far:

500 server error, and couldn’t update the software for a while.

Topo maps with no contours ???

Wrist heart rate measurements wildly out (about a third out, 50BPM on activities; Walking; Hiking). Wear a chest belt if you want any accuracy

O2 SATs (pulse Ox) are out (In work I’d be putting on an O2 mask on a patient if their sats were that low) - yes I am wearing the watch snug but comfortable.

Garmin looking for FDA approval ?? …Not with this device.

Widgets (Gamins; see opening post) uninstalling themselves, meaning I have to keep reinstalling and reordering them, its a PITA - stopped looking at the IQ connect website and won’t be downloading any more. It seems to happen then; or if I make a custom activity.

GPS accuracy, leaves a lot to be desired - played with GLONASS & GALILEO. The exact same route I have done 5 times is reporting differences of up a third (300m) of a Km over a 6Km distance.
    None of them tally.

Cannot sync Activities via Wifi.(It did work when I initially set it up, then stopped after a few days) “No app or Wi-fi connection found,” and yet able to download playlists from Deezer over wifi??? - I have updated passwords on watch, uninstalled, re-installed 2 different networks, deleted the watch from Garmin Express. Reinstalled, updated wifi networks passwords etc…..

I’ve only had the watch since the 13th March 2019

Don’t get me wrong, love the watch. Hate the “bugs” So for me I’m not going to spend more time obsessing over trying to fix a watch that seems laden with bugs.

So I am going stop bug-gering (sorry) around with it and not bother trying to sync over wifi or add any new widgets. (Not a deal breaker)

Lesson learned. What I have my hands on (or wrist in this case) is a very expensive toy.

This will probably be my last purchase of tech that is not totally essential, as it seems that (and not just with Garmin) that when you purchase new tech you end up with new hobby. That hobby is a software/hardware tester.

Thanks to all those that have offered help and advice.

Software Version on Fenix 6.00 (current)

Software version on Garmin Express 6.13.0.0 (current)

Widgets currently installed; “Watch Link” developed by Garmin, which works sometimes & “Skywatch”

I also have a few “watchfaces” installed.

  • OnlyTwo I'm relaxed but thank you for the reminder. I just care about all you and the products you are using too much.

TMK17 Noted, and thank you. That gave me the clue that I needed.

Everyone else, thank you for posting this so that I can readdress it from my side. Once I have more information, I will post it here.
  • I think I have a similar problem. Spotify keeps disappearing on me. 6.1 APAC 5x+
