Bluetooth headset falls in and out during run exercise

Hey,
Does anyone else have this issue too? I wanted the 5X Plus among other things because it should be able to handle listening to music while running but apparently using the run exercise at the same time makes the connection to the headset unstable. Makes that feature sort of unusable. It works terribly to say the least.
Anyone tried the same? Any fixes?
Kindest,
Allan
  • Alternative wrist makes no difference. This was a bug in the official firmware that was fixed from beta 6.57
  • Beside possible firmware-bugs: Unfortunately there are some headsets which don't work and some that work.
There is a lengthy thread listing headsets that work (and some that do not work).
Sometimes it's even looks strange that it works inside or it works as long as you don't swing your arms, well you will swing your arms while running of course :-) Just mentioning...

I own an Anker and a MPow headset and both work like a charm even though I wear the watch at the opposite site.

Does it really make it better with the newer firmware?

I have the same issue, on ver 6.0. wearing on the right wrist helps, using Bose sound sport free. Also, it is the worst during the first 2:07 after beginning an activity. Not to be pedantic but it really is 2:07 after selecting an activity that the watch goes berserk. Also, after finishing an activity it is wonky but for a shorter time.
  • I just installed the ver 6.58 beta and so far it is a lot better. Caveat, I am indoor. But I acquired a GPS signal and then began an activity and I would say the music is nearly perfect, no dropouts or anything, so huge improvement. I will try outside soon and report back.

    regards,
  • Obviously there will be some earphones that have better Bluetooth connection than others but the issue I had was 100% firmware related and sounds similar to Aagaard_A.

My connection was always perfect up to the point I selected an activity at which point the connection would become unstable, and stutter between left and right.

The only way to solve this was to either stop the activity (at which point the connection would be perfect again) or wait a few minutes - I can’t remeber how long - and then the issue would disappear.

    Thanks
  • So I just went outside and I'm happy to report that hopefully this issue as been resolved. I was pretty bummed about this considering the cost of the watch, Garmin ought to push this ver 6.58 out since they must have people wanting to jump off bridges or return the watch.

At any rate, I went outside, and selected walking as an activity. I'm using bose sound sport free earbuds, and had the watch on my left wrist. The bluetooth connection was pretty perfect after 2 minutes. During the first 2 minutes of the activity there were just a few hiccups but nothing like before.

    Vastly improved, thank you Garmin
