Newbie question time - the screen of my new 5 Plus (non-sapphire)

Hi all, proud owner of a new 5 Plus here. Coming from an Apple Watch it feels pretty funky and retro haha! Took me an afternoon to work most of it out Lol! Did my first run yesterday with it and it rocks :)

One question, which is a dumb one no doubt but I want to check I don't have a dodgy watch. The screen seems to be quite faded / low colour saturation / dim compared to the Apple - especially inside. Totally understand that the screen is different tech entirely and much more battery efficient no doubt than the Apple's (LCD vs OLED) - and of course I am used to the Apple screen. But I want to check if this is this normal because most pictures I see of the watch online appears to show a much brighter more "contrasty" screen. Maybe they are all just promotional pics.

I have played with back light settings etc.

Thanks, sorry for the likely stupid question

Steve
  • True, there is a big difference between the Apple Watch (Series 4 44mm here) and the fenix 5+. You're right that it is due to the "always on", and generally, one doesn't need a backlight outdoors. The pictures you see are actually taken with the backlight on to "enhance" the product, and in my opinion, somewhat misleading. I wear both watches depending on mood, and when I really want the exercise metrics, it's the Fenix, hands down. I'm leaning more and more toward the fenix because of that, and the Garmin Connect, an online, multiple page repository where I can see everything, steps, sleep, exercise, past history, stress, etc all in one convenient place without having to look at half dozen apps on the phone. These old eyes appreciate the online's much larger screen.
Enjoy your watch, and soon, you'll probably be like most others who have progressed from the AW to the Fenix line.

Thanks Oeagleo, appreciate the reassurance. Very much like the Garmin for the reasons you say - will be selling the Apple watch!
    Cheers, Steve
