Hello

I am a new user of garmin 5 s plus.

I was really looking forward to listening music directly from watch but sadly my apple airpods are getting crazy disconnections during outdoor running (and i always run outdoors) making the experience just sad.

1 - Any tips to get my airpods working good? i guess they wont and i need to buy some headphones especially for running so..

2 - Which Wireless headphones do you suggest guys and are 100% confirmed for perfect connection with the watch for music? ;) My requirement for them are: a: beeing ''open''? (beeing able to hear music + Surroundings at once for safety during city runs :D) and B : beeing good to use with watch on the left wrist.

Sad example of my perfect headphones d be backbeat 3100 as a truewireless and ''open'' hearing of surrondings but i sadly read they dont work well with the fenix

Thanks in advance and i am looking forwards for answers! ;)
  • There's a thread discussing which headphones work well and which do not.

I can confirm that I use Aftershokx Trekz Air and they work perfectly.
  • What is the problem with your AirPods? Mine are working fine.

i use watch on left wrist and do the running outdoors. they drop signal nearly all the time. 10 seconds good then 5 seconds 0 music then 15 seconds good then 10 seconds of ''crackles''
  • I also have the AfterShokz Trekz Air headphones that, from the sound of your first post, are exactly what you are after. I can also confirm that their connection to the Fenix 5+ is solid, regardless of which wrist and whether indoors or out; I can even hold the Fenix 5+ against the left side of my body whilst running outdoors (so the watch is sandwiched between my arm and body) and it still keeps a solid connection. Some cheaper MPOW and Groov-e headphones I have work acceptably with my Fenix 5+, but the AfterShokz are faultless in terms of connection stability. I did look in to the Backbeat 3100, but aside of connection stability they still actually block your ear channel and don’t actually actively transmit noise from the outside world in; the Trekz Air use bone conduction and so don’t cover you ear channel at all.

Whatever the solution you go for, be aware you are still only going to hear as much of your surrounding as you would if you strapped a couple of Bluetooth speakers on your shoulders instead; your ears are clear to hear all surrounding noise, but the loud music nearby still masks other subtle noises.

I see AfterShokz Trekz Air is going to be the only good choice haha.
About the backbeats its written something about its ''open'' not blocking totally, special system etc but it deosnt matter as the connetion to the watch is bad according to users.

Any other suggestion for ''open'' headphones different than AfterShokz Trekz Air or its the only good choice?
  • I have been using my 5S Plus with AirPods since it was first released without many problems. I wear the watch on my left wrist. I do experience occasional dropouts, but reconnection is quick.

Maybe your tolerance lvl for dropouts is higher than mine. actually today on 6.55 version and also different track it was a bit better but i am still going for a new different headphones for better connection and quality of my run. Seems AfterShokz is the only choice.

  • I use Jabra Elite Active 65t's which meet requirement 2 perfectly.

  • I use Plantronics Backbeat FIT, and so far they have been rock solid with the watch. They are open design, and I wear the watch on the left wrist.
