Is there a guide on how to maximise my battery life, and/or what features cause most battery drain? I ask as my 5X Plus needs charging a lot more frequently than my previous Fenix watches - every 3 days at the moment (I have owned a Fenix 2, 3, 5X and now 5X Plus). I am doing the same level of activities as always. thanks.
Muttley33 That sounds very high drain for the 5X plus - with the other Fenix plus watches there seem to have been alot of battery drain problems. I think with the latest Beta software on my 5+ that I am seeing more normal battery drain. Sounds sensible to turn Pulse Ox off but lots of other options are the reason that you buy the watch :) . On my 5+ I have notifications on backlight on when I turn my wrist and the CIQ Watchface Actiface bluetooth on etc I have activity tracking and 24/7 HR monitoring and with running and swimming on alternate days I get 4 - 5 days life up to now.(About half what I got with my 935 with the same options on). With many of the plus series they have been showing fully charged when they are not - unit the latest firmware release I would charge the watch until it showed 100% then if I rebooted it it might only show 85% charged and needed another hour to charge fully. I think (hopefully that is cured with latest beta 6.55). I have charged my watch 87.5 hours ago and it is now at 62% battery - I have only done 1 45 min swim in that period so I'll be interested to see how much GPS drains it when I run this evening.
What options have you got on and how many/what type of activities do you log in your 3 days typical usage?
I average 0.3 drain per hour (~ 14 days to exhaust full charge) and use GPS in Ultratrac mode 1 hr per day on average. Pulse Ox is off. HR and notifications are on. Stock watch face w steps and sun event.
Use a Stock Watch Face. A lot of CIQ WF’s can quickly drain the battery due to the info on the front.
Even the stock faces can increase battery drain quite a lot if you choose the wrong settings.
I use the stock digital face with only hours, minutes, weekday and date. This gives me a power drain of approx. 0.15%/hour. (That is with bluetooth, smart notifications, activity tracking and heart rate monitoring permanently enabled, so those 3 can't contribute much to power consumption).
If I enable seconds and sunrise/sunset in the watch face, my power drain doubles - and strangely, the sunrise/sunset seems to be the main culprit, even though it only needs updating twice per day, or when my location has changed (or rather is known by the watch to have changed).
Of course, none of this explains that the battery can drain in 3 days. That seems very excessive. I usually use 8-10%/day, including 1-2 hours of GPS activities.
Should be ok, as there's electronics inside that keep watch over the charging status of the battery, but regularly leaving the watch connected to charging for prolonged time should be avoided, as it could have negative impact on battery life. But if it was a one-off incident, then there's nothing to worry about.
