Fenix 5x plus blue triangle

So i just bought a new fenix 5x plus yesterday, very happy about it at first! Opened the box, the watch was dead and had to be charged for one hour before there where any signs of life. Used it for 3 hours, one of them while running, then installed Spotify.
And now the problems started, while syncing Spotify the watch face restarted, and everything was unresponsive and lagging, managed to turn it off, but now it won't start! I get some lines on the screen and a blue triangle, tried every reset combination i could find on Google.. What to do now?
  • Did you connect to a PC/Mac with Garmin Express installed and updated to the latest software version (current mainstream release is 6.00)? If you’re still on an old factory loaded device software version, then it won’t work well with the latest Spotify app (along with other issues). You can check the software version by going to Menu>Settings>System>About
  • A lipo battery should be stored at about half charge.... if the battery didn't turn on the watch when you bought it... then the battery probably went below 3.2 volts during storage... which will damage the lipo...
You should have not received a flat battery in your watch as you say.
I'd take mine back just for that reason..... any lipo you buy should be above 3.2 volts.... any lower and your asking for problems....
    :::::::::::::
Ps... There is a way to master reset a 5x if you only get to the blue triangle screen.... should be similar to the 5x plus.... it involves holding all the buttons and releasing them one by one after beep tones are heared.... you could ask product support about it.... but I would take it back anyway... due to the lipo being compromised.

Yes, that was the first thing i tried. It is completely dead, non responsive to any button action. Should've stayed with the suunto 9 baro

I'm going to take it back as the battery was flat when i bought it.
  • I have returned it, turns out at least half of the watches sold at this store have been return due to some sort of "triangle of death".. My advice, stay clear of the fenix series
  • I’m sorry you had a bad watch but your situation isn’t indicative of the entire Fenix 5+ lineup. Most are fine.
  • I need to point out that the customer service i received was flawless!

So is there any DIY solution for this blue triangle problem?

I have the same problem here. In the first day of problem, the device can't be powered up at all.
Yesterday after I left it few hours charging with a powerbank, I tried powering up again by holding the Light button for around 30 seconds, it showed something : the blue triangle blinking. It didn't stop blinking at all
I can power off by pressing the Light button for around 10 seconds.
After that, all button combinations tried, but none had come successful.
I even left it overnight blinking, but in the morning, it still keeps blinking. No sound, no beep. Blinking only.
    ?????
Just now, I tried to connect to computer, device was not recognized. Due to trying several button combinations again, I power it down. Now it won't power on again :(
  • Vladravic.....I would maybe try ringing product support and ask them to go through the blue triangle master reset procedure I mentioned in my other post to see if that helps...if not ...they should replace it for you..
  • vladravic, I really hope you will contact Garmin Support as Sam201176 suggested.

The steps that you did were honestly good.

Holding the Power Button for 30 seconds is what Product Support would call a Soft Reset. Basically, it is a fancy way to turn off the device in case it gets stuck at any point. The same thing as holding the Power Button on your computer when it is frozen.

I am not sure why you are charging it from a Power Bank, but I know from travels, sometimes that is honestly the best way to get a good solid charge.

The fact that it keeps blinking makes me wonder what is going on. I have seen it at times when a corrupted file will get on a device and it will turn on, load up to the loading maps and/or triangle and reboot at that point. This is due to the device seeing something it does not understand and tries to do it again. I have seen people call this the Elephant in the room since it would be like if we woke up one morning and found an Elephant in the room, and you would either blink a lot at it or go back to sleep since you think it is a dream since how odd it is.

If I was there with you, I would do the following:

Plug the device into a computer
If the device doesn't turn on, do the Soft Reset by holding the Light button by 30 seconds.
Once the device powers on, let go of the Light button
If the device is not seen by the computer, you can force the watch to do it. Unplug the device, turn it off {Use the Soft Reset if needed}, plug into the computer and keep holding the light button until the device is seen by the computer.
After the device is seen by the computer, open the Garmin Drive -> Garmin Folder -> remove the activities folders and any other information that you might have put on the device before reporting this issue.
If on a mac, make sure to clear the waste bin if you delete anything
Safety ejects the device from the computer and allows the device to load up normally.

If you continue to have issues, then for sure contact your local Garmin Support Teams so that we can work with you directly.
