Garmin Fenix 5 plus is not detected as disk drive, Garmin Express shows broken files

Suddenly my Garmin Fenix 5 plus started showing errors when I tried to sync it with my MacBook Pro (macOS Mojave 10.14.3). Usually I sync files once 3 days or so. Till recently all was good but yesterday Garmin Express started showing errors that files are corrupted (it even showed strangle file names from today's morning but I ran last time yesterday). I tried to copy files manually from the device to fix them but there is no disk drive GARMIN. I tried all steps described here: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=PEtKkmDWkF65Y5pC2CbJGA (installed updates, rebooted) - nothing helps. I use brand Garmin cable which came with the device. Mobile Bluetooth Activity sync also doesn't work but it showed IQ activities like calculated all the steps, etc.

I am especially disappointed because yesterday I ran my first 100k and can't sync it right now

Did you try a different USB slot? If this does not work, try to find another device which you can sync to. (e.g. friends smartphone etc) and perform a factory reset after sync.

i tried different slot as well. There are suggestions that Garmin is down - https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status

The plus devices are "MTP devices" and those do not mount on a Mac.

But you can use a utility such as Android File Transfer, https://www.android.com/filetransfer/ - just make sure Garmin Express is not running, as it disables the AFT program.
