Garmin Fenix 5X - the Voice of Customer

Dear Community Members,

I am new on this forum but following it since at least several months.

Last year I was almost to buy Garmin Fenix 5X plus watch model because it seemed to me that it suits my daily needs and also style of it was convenient but reading this forum I have doubted it.

I am not a person, who plays sports professionally but I am doing it for my health, usually it is: biking, swimming, skiing and mountain walking.

My expectation was to get all-purpose device which will monitor and help with improving my daily activities, helps me with all night sleep monitoring and is useful for listening of music via Bluetooth.

Reading your posts I have noticed that this watch is having a lot of software bugs, which sooner or later can be covered but also hardware problems (like GPS accuracy while walking in the forest) which are not solvable…

I would like to ask you for your honest opinion, is this product worth buying it?

Is Garmin now working on model 6X or similar and maybe is better to wait for it?

Are there comparable products on the market you would like to recommend or you would buy instead of buying Fenix 5X plus?

I appreciate any comments to the subject from your side as you are the best critics because you are using it on a daily basis.

Best greetings to all of You from Poland!

Kind Regards
Paul

  • Think about it, if there was actually any validity to that product/date and it wasn’t officially announced yet...then Garmin wouldn’t want to let the car out of the bag.

Jan also didn’t provide any proof to his statement as well.
  • Yes, to be Captain Obvious, often companies want to control the timing of the knowledge of their product releases. If people know too early when the next model is coming out, they're not buying the current model while it's still viable, and the company is losing money.

(Obviously the exception is products which have a regular/frequent release cycle.)
  • Sure, I am aware of your comments regarding new model's strategy which is almost the same for every company. Just would like to know what are the rules of this forum because I am brand new here. Thanks!
  • Paul_Sz If your posts about product release dates were deleted, I think it's pretty obvious that Garmin doesn't want us discussing leaks, and we all know why.

To answer your Q about enabling private messaging, the forum user profile settings are broken (much like the rest of the forum). However, you can work around this by typing a valid username into the Ignore List (at the bottom of the page), such "ABCD". Apparently the ignore list doesn't work anyway, so it won't do any harm to change it.

EDIT: I also found it works if you put your own username in the ignore list. That might be the safest route.
  • Garmin-Heath I am not able to replay to your message. Could you please check and let me know, why I am not allowed to change my profile account and “Enable Private Messaging”. Thanks!
  • Paul_Sz did you read my post above about user profile settings? They are broken, but if you put a name in the ignore list (near the bottom), such as your own name, you should be able to save the settings. This should be okay as it seems the ignore list doesn’t even work.
  • the private message is likely only to point out that you shouldn't discuss unreleased products.

as to your initial question, there's no 1 watch for everyone but I see your sports are "biking, swimming, skiing and mountain walking". The Fenix line is robust and designed for outdoor activities, this device should definitely be a good match for your profile. Depending on how much biking you do an Edge device would definitely be a great additional value for that sport.
  • FlowState, yes I have read it and tried but it was not working at that time, now I have done it one more time and and it is working properly for me. Many thanks for your help!
  • peterdedecker, thanks for your recommendation regarding Fenix 5X plus. Biking is my 1[SUP]st[/SUP] and the favorite activity (even during winter time I am doing indoor cycling) and I am thinking about Edge 520 but still I am not sure because on my list there is also Sigma Rox 12.0 ;)
