Garmin Fenix 5X - the Voice of Customer

Dear Community Members,

I am new on this forum but following it since at least several months.

Last year I was almost to buy Garmin Fenix 5X plus watch model because it seemed to me that it suits my daily needs and also style of it was convenient but reading this forum I have doubted it.

I am not a person, who plays sports professionally but I am doing it for my health, usually it is: biking, swimming, skiing and mountain walking.

My expectation was to get all-purpose device which will monitor and help with improving my daily activities, helps me with all night sleep monitoring and is useful for listening of music via Bluetooth.

Reading your posts I have noticed that this watch is having a lot of software bugs, which sooner or later can be covered but also hardware problems (like GPS accuracy while walking in the forest) which are not solvable…

I would like to ask you for your honest opinion, is this product worth buying it?

Is Garmin now working on model 6X or similar and maybe is better to wait for it?

Are there comparable products on the market you would like to recommend or you would buy instead of buying Fenix 5X plus?

I appreciate any comments to the subject from your side as you are the best critics because you are using it on a daily basis.

Best greetings to all of You from Poland!

Kind Regards
Paul

Almost certainly garmin is working on a successor. Waiting for it does not necessarily make any sense, as it won't be any better in terms of quality than any other modern garmin. If there are any issues with the current 5X+, then those issues are well known by now, and one can assess if those issues are a deal-killer or no. Whereas if you buy a completely new model, you'll be on your own with finding out all the bugs and hardware deficiencies. Although if you can buy from a seller who offers unconditional returns (might be tricky to find one in Poland) after a decent period of time, you might give it a try.

  • tmk2 good observation, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
  • Paul, any watch that is software related will always have its issues. You don’t think Apple, Samsung, Fitbit, Suunto also have their own detractors?

You’ll never find a perfect watch that has software both on the watch and on the phone AND has to work together. With so many different OS’s and versions that of those OS’s, it’s almost impossible. Now, as I’ve said before in other topics, the 5x+ still has bugs to be worked out but overall, in its current state it’s in a good position (I preface that comment with...based on my needs).

Now, my opinion is totally different about the Descent MK1 model and if you read my posts in that forum, I sing a different tune. But I also understand, it’s a new venture into a new field. If we all went back and looked at the comments posted about the Fenix 1 and 2, we’d see a lot of the same growing pains.
  • I have tried several Fitbit and Polar the past years but ended up with Garmin. Have used Garmin for the last two years or so. Started with F5 and now I am the happy owner of a F5X plus. My F5 had altimeter issue, but got replaced by Garmin (fast response).

Overall I am very happy with Garmin. Using HRM-tri, Vector3 and Index also. Have had issues, but what electronic devices does not? Fitbit was the worst. But good support and service. (Garmin also have good support, imho)

    I will definitely recommend Garmin.

  • I'm a very big fan of my 5x plus. It has been with me on countless adventures and everyday activities. The battery life is quite good and while there are bugs here and there it is far better than a lot of other "fitness" wearable devices I've tried.
  • Gentleman,

Thank you very much for your positive feedback and all your opinions. It gives me further direction about this quite nice watch, which I want to have!

    Kind Regards

    Hola Paul:
  • Fer13 thank you very much for your valuable opinion and recommendation which is still in line with comments of the other community members. You are right this product has one important feature for me, there are two different equipment built in one, so it is worth buying if someone wants to have all compacted under one box.

BTW, Spanish is not my native language but google helps :D
  • Can you explain me why someone has deleted from my post Jan502 answer and two other replays?
  • Does anyone tell me why I am not able to change my profile account and “Enable Private Messaging”? If I do that and save the changes and check again the settings the box is still unmarked, so seems to me that it is set again to the default value. Any tips here?

    Thanks!
