trueup with TrainerRoad

Hi - I have been using TrueUp for 6 months now with no issues, it's been super handy. It has also worked well with Zwift rides in the past but having started on TrainerRoad yesterday, I have noticed the ride isn't been sent to my F5+. I can see it in Garmin Connect but it won't copy to the watch.

Is this a known issue? I have tried contacting both TrainerRoad and Garmin to see if they can assist.
  • For anyone else that notices and wonders about this. I have found that Garmin Connect accepts most, if not all activities, as long as the 3rd party supports the link (For indoor training - Zwift, Sufferfest, TrainerRoad all do). Kind of obvious but tested this on all 3 - minimum, 10 min workouts required.

Appears only Zwift and Sufferfest workouts will actually get synced to the watch using TrueUp, TrainerRoad workouts do not.

That said, all workouts from all 3 platforms DO NOT count towards your intensity minutes and will obviously not include Garmin specific stats, so in my opinion, it's kind of pointless having any of it synced to your watch other than it being a reminder of what you did recently.

I have therefore turned off the Garmin link from TrainerRoad and continue to also record an indoor cycling activity on my Fenix 5+ linked to my sensors.
  • I do the same thing when I use Zwift. I record simultaneously on my F5+ and only export the Zwift session to Strava but save the F5+ to GC and export it to Training Peaks.
  • Any chance this can and will be fixed by Garmin?

Good to know....I thought they might have counted towards the metrics on the watch so I've been trying to figure out the same thing with my Fenix. Guess I'll use the watch on indoor rides too!

  • It's super annoying that TrainerRoad workouts won't use the True Up feature.  Zwift does it ok.  I understand that recording it on my watch fixes the problem, but then I have to manually enter the title and notes of the workout in both Garmin Connect and TrainingPeaks.   Way more work than it's worth.
