HR not working after workout

HI,
I get no HR tracking when I finnish any workout with hrm-run strap. I need to restart/reconnect wrist hr or hr strap connection to start hr tracking or take watch off for a while. It switches off after stopped or saved workout. even when i still wear hr-strap. Anyone has the solution for this ? It is started after update to 6.0 on my apac version of fenix 5 plus.
Thanks for help
  • There have been other threads about similar problems. I have suffered from it too, but I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly when it goes wrong. It seems as if I get a mixture of three different issues:

    1. After ending an activity, or before starting an activity, while wearing the chest strap, the OHR will automatically switch off, but the watch will not start using the signal from the chest strap.

    2. The watch will behave differently when the HR widget is open. In this case, it will use the signal from the chest strap. I don't know if that has been the intention, and I don't really see why the choice between OHR and chest strap should depend on whether that widget is open.

    3. After ending an activity and removing/washing the chest strap, then starting a new activity, the watch will pick up on a 220-240 BPM signal from the chest strap while it is hanging to dry.
  • I have tightened the chest strap and it is giving me better connectivity. But it's still dropping randomly.
  • I will try that thanks, but I have made maybe 20 sessions only with this strap , so I was not expecting that battery is dead. I have used my old polar strap for 3 years without changing battery with Polar FT80.
  • Ok, today hrm run stopped working no connection, so i have changed battery. After that nothing. Dead. So i have removed pairing ,and did new one , still nothing. Next step was watch reset. Now strap found and paired. The issue started after update to 6.0 on my apac version of fenix 5 plus. Is it a problem with firmware or strap ?? I ll post update tomorrow how the strap behave after running. Thanks
  • For future reference, if you change the battery in the strap and nothing happens, remove the battery, put in reversed for a few seconds, then replace right way up. It is possible to see the condition. off the battery if you go to Sensors and Accessories with your strap connected, find your way to the strap and have a look there.

My suspicion is that it is a coincidence that this occurred with the update.
  • yes i have done your advice with flipping, so strap is connected but hr keeps switching off , im not doing any activity right now, thanks for battery info , good advice.
  • Purchased it at beginning of November 2018, doing quick rinsing every time after activity as well and washing once in a 2-3 weeks. So I have made a run today , strap connected without problems , no dropouts during run but after activity is saved and over , no hr detected , when I check the sensor menu, strap is disconnected , but connects straight away as soon as i enter the menu. Wrist Hr does not switch on after inactivity of HR strap, unless you take off your watch and put it back on. I have the red sensor strap non removable.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1454526.jpg
  • I think this issue has been well discussed in the past. I believe the problem lies with the sensor still transmitting for some short period after removal and confusing the watch. I believe the resolution was to ensure the strap is kept a few metres away from, and out of range of the watch after removal.

I might of course be wrong as I have not searched the forum so it might pay you to do so. You might also want to get in touch with Garmin Support.
  • After I have finished the activity , I'm not taking the strap off, as soon as I save my activity , HR goes off while I am still wearing strap.

Garmin responded with some advises from manual

If you are having difficulty pairing a Garmin Chest Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) strap to your Garmin device, please walk through the following tips:

    • Prior to wearing, wet the electrodes on the back of the HRM strap with water or electrolyte gel. This will help establish an electrical connection between your body and the strap.
    • The HRM strap must be worn while pairing. Make sure the logo on the front of the strap is right-side up, directly on the skin just beneath the breastbone as shown here:
    • Bring the HRM strap within 10 feet (3 meters) of the device you are pairing it with.
    • Attempt to add the HRM strap as a new sensor to the device. This is done from the device's settings menu by selecting the option to search for all sensors. Refer to your Owner's Manual for specific instructions.
    • If issues persist, consider replacing the CR2032 battery in the HRM if you have not done so before. Video instructions on how to do this are provided below:
