Garmin fenix 5 plus heart rate monitoring vs Mio Link

I have an old Mio link heart rate monitor. Does anyone have any experience of if I would get any more accurate heart rate monitoring from Mio Link compared to the fenix? Basically I am asking if there would be any point in pairing Mio Link with the fenix or if fenix internal heart rate monitor has similar accuracy.
  • I would say for the 24/7 activity monitoring, if anything, the fenix would be more accurate. However, for actual exercise, it would depend on the type of exercise/activity. For running, walking, etc, the fenix would do just fine, but for other activities, rowing, weights, zumba, etc, neither would be called "good", and the real only way to get accurate HR measurements would be with a chest strap. My opinion, your mileage may vary.

I already knew that chest strap would be most accurate, but I was talking about Mio Link and if there is any accuracy difference between Mio link and the internal heart rate monitoring of the Fenix. I used to do exercise with Mio link paired with my mobile phone, but now that I will be getting Garmin Fenix 5 plus soon, I am still wondering if I should pair my old Mio Link with it or let the Fenix do everything.

I say give it a shot. I've done about the same thing with an Apple Watch Series 4, and honestly my results closely parallel the thoughts above, for 24/7, they're near identical, with the Fenix 5+ having the advantage of having everything in one spot, etc, steps, HR, sleep, activity, etc, while on the AW you need half a dozen other apps, and there's no web interface, it's all on the watch, and phone. The HR acts about the same as stated above, use the chest strap, or even the OH1 from Polar on my upper arm gives more accurate data than the watch alone.
  • I have been trying to test which one is more accurate at heart rate monitoring but the main problem is that I don't have anything that I know would be accurate. I know that if I do a short sprint, fenix is clearly showing lower heart rates. Fenix can show heart rate 105 when Mio Link is showing 130 after that short sprint.
