Long term Titanium bezel - how is it holding up?

Gr4z I would have thought the main benefit of Titanium is the lower weight rather than scratch resistance - steel is often harder than comparable titanium alloys but much lighter and much more chemically inert so does not corrode in situations where an equivalent steel will do

I guess in this case though it's the coating that you have scrathed rather than the Steel itself

Yep it's the coating that has come off. I hardly touched it against a plastic wheelie bin lid (!) and now have a large scratch staring at me all the time, frustrating considering the cost of it and the so called 'toughness'. Yes I know I should just accept it, but I take care of everything I own and my OCD is in overdrive.

I am not that bothered with the weight difference as I am used to heavy watches (I have a Omega mechanical as well) just prefer the Titanium look now I have seen it in the flesh. I assume that when/if you scratch the titanium you won't be able to see it very easily owing to the entire metal being titanium and not just the surface.

So curious to know now it has been out for over 6 months, how the 5+Ti is holding up with the various owners.

Gr4z ok understand what you mean. I'm surprised that you've scratched the coating on a wheelie bin though - that suggests to me a defective coating. Since having my 5+ sapphire I have frequently knocked it against walls and door frames and at the moment (touch wood) I have no scrathes. I previously had a lovely 935 which I am starting to miss :( all plastic lighter and slimmer - I think the extra weight and thickness of the 5+ is what causes me to knock it. I also find the GPS less accurate than the 935.

Funnily enough I had a 935 before my 5+ as well. Had that for 14 months and did not get a mark on it and sold it on eBay flawless. 'Upgraded' to the 5+ and within 6 weeks have got a huge scratch on it. I emailed Garmin to express disappointment in its toughness considering its cost, but I got the expected reply and if I wanted to replace it for a refurb it would cost £200!!!

Love the way it looks though. I would be tempted to downgrade back to the 935 but have got used to it's looks and now next to my colleague who has the Ti version, it's even more frustrating.

My Ti Orange band is still looking great 2 months in. Only one very minor scratch which is hardly noticeable. Remember that Ti oxidises to a nice metallic grey so a fresh looking scratch will soon form a coating and blend in to a large extent. Upshot is Ti will scratch more easily than bare SS ( or certainly DLC, probably similar to painted finish) but you won't notice it as much, if at all...

Weight is significantly less as others have said...helps the HR sensor stay steady on wrist.

I have the orange Ti from the first day. Almost 7 months I suppose. It has many small scratches that are hardly noticeable under light. I don’t think that it’s more scratch resistant. Also it has lost the shiny look. It is more flat silver now. I bought it for the weight.

After 6 months or so. Minor scratches top/bottom. Certainly don't bother me. Strap is a cheapo from Amazon that matches (albeit that is stainless steel, so rather removes the Ti weight benefit - but more professional for desk job during the working week).

That looks fine, I don't mind dings like that. I would upload an image of my watch with associated scratch, but the useless forum software just keeps saying 'invalid image'.
