Speed up turn by turn prompts

Before I went running at the weekend on a new route, I setup a course and sync'd it with my 5+. When out running the watch was prompting me to turn ahead of the actual turn, like it normally does ~50m from the junction, but when I actually got to the junction it was not prompting me until after I passed it.

Is there anyway I can change this? I think it's just a little bit slow to react (or I run too fast :))

Thanks
  • I noticed this also when I was running last weekend. I had a 90 degree right turn and the watch did not notify me to turn right. Sometimes when it is obvious to turn right for example, it prompts.

If I didn't have the map on the watch to follow I hadn't find the right course. So after this run I don't trust the turn by turn navigation. The map screen is nearly spot on to find the right way.

I think that the late prompt is GPS related (Accuracy). 100 meter before a turn would be better...
  • I've noticed the same thing, alerts a bit late.

Not a big deal in the suburbs, but I could see where depending on the alerts in the city might not work so well.

Has ANY runner had a positive experience with turn-by-turn? I've used navigation twice and the prompts were completely useless.

    Agreed
  • So it seems I am not alone then! The Apple Watch gets more appealing every day.
  • Does anyone has reported it to beta team?
  • Last time I reported anything to the 'support' team I was basically told it was a visual glitch and 'did not impair the functionality of the watch'. I have never bothered since.
  • On my 5+ I only had this once or twice. Beside those times it is spot on. Warns me around 50m before and when to take the turn.

When you say turn by turn - is the routing navigation being done "Follow Course" or "By Map" ?

Because from what I understand, those have different visual presentation and different algorithms for prompting.

So which is best when say running in a city/town with multiple junctions?
