Fenix 5+ sync issues

It happened now twice....I am traveling in Northern Africa and South Europe and twice when I entered a new country sync with my Pixel 2 XL/Google Fi started failing after a reboot (and I rebooted the watch because it did not properly change to the new timezone....even sync with gps did not seem to fix it). I usually realize it when all downloaded widgets do not work and show an "iQ!" on the screen on my Fenix 5+ instead of the widget (the build in ones work, but again...I cannot sync even after removing the offending widgets). Normal reset (even deleting all user data) does not work. Each time I had to use option 2 for resetting my Fenix to get it to pair and sync properly again (Press and hold the Start Button and the Back Button). Normal reset fails after pairing with my Pixel (setup could not complete or pairing failed, if I remember correctly).
Weird....did anyone else run into this issue?
After the option 2 reset and pairing everything seems fine again (but annoying and I lost all my music and cannot resync with my phone because that requires a PC). My FR 935 did not have this (losing sync) issue. I suspect this is a FW issue, not HW...any help appreciated since I will be traveling fir a few mire weeks (and several countries)....
??????
  • And happened again...traveling from Morocco to Spain. while watch remained connected after touchdown, it never finishes syncying and I have to go through the above procedure to get it syncing again. With my routine this takes about 10min...still, annoying. Seems like I am the only one, or just no one traveling and reading my post. When back home I will exchange the watch...just in case...
  • Happened again after a hike and this time it had nothing to do with a timezone change (because I did not change my current location).
Sync failed and garmin audit file log attached. Some tmp file could not be downloaded. Unfortunately I do not have a pc to check the file before resetting the watch.
Any idea what is going on?
  • Cannot upload that log file.
Anyway, the key text is: "Upload status=Failed (unable to download file <string of numbers>.tmp] from the remote device: data exists but it is not downl...)
    Download status: not started"
  • Ok, again me....
It now seems the issue occurs when I sync my watch via gps and changed timezones (it does not seem to happen when I change time manually, without gps).
see below fir latest example of the audit log. Different temp file this time, but each time a tmp file seems to be the root cause. Any idea what exactly is happening? Thanks!

  • Update: I found someone with a PC I trust and installed the latest beta FW....seems like this all was due to a SW issue, because last time I calibrated my watch using gps, everything worked just fine.
