Fenix 5x Plus - 6.51 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5x Plus users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X Plus: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=14335

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

6.51 Change Log Notes:
  • Fixed an issue where the device was reporting extremely high values for Bike powermeter.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.
  • Installed and tested on my Elite Direto. No power spike anymore.

  • Is there a reason the sensor hub software here is 221 and not 230 version present on the watch? Update all the files, or only the 651 main firmware? The GPS track for me, a convert from Fenix 3 is abysmal! Like a drunken sailor down the street. Vivoactive 3 and my former Fenix 3 were much better!
  • Do I lose data if i upgrade to this beta from 6.00? ( from 5.10 to 6.00 the device upgraded itself well without losing settings/data).
And the other question like in the previous comment, is it enough to upgrade the system or do I have to copy all of the files written in the installation guide?
  • You do not lose data when upgrading to a higher version number, only when downgrading to a lower version number.

(In these forums I have seen one incident where a watch refused to upgrade from a beta version to the next official version. So the owner had to first downgrade it from the beta to the old official version and then upgrade it to the new official version. This will cause loss of data if it happens to you. But it seems to be very rare, and if that should happen, you can always take a backup of your settings before downgrading.)
  • shedding a tear. Being a Power meter user with APAC version is not the place to be. Staying on 5.1 until next release. So that means... another 3-4 weeks until general release + then 2-4 weeks for APAC release. Then add some Christmas holidays and a bit -So in probably about 2-3+ months I can upgrade to v6.x from 5.1

Garmin - please speed up APAC release schedule. Thanks.

I might just revert back to my old Fenix 5x (pre plus) as this is just painful.

But last time EVER I buy an APAC version. Simply not worth it until about 1 year after release.
  • i had been on BETA 5.57 and then official release 6.0 with all files due to the power issue I downgraded "only" the main to 5.1 (and manually did the reconfiguration)
    I still was on GPS 2.30, WIFI 2.50, ANT+/BLE/BT 3.20 and Sensor HUB 2.30
today I only installed the GUPDATE.GCD out of the System_v651 folder, I did not try to install the back level Sensor Hub 2.21.
till now no problems, will go to a bike ride after work today.
  • Just returned from a 50 km Trip. Problem with powermeter is solved. Thanks Garmin

Did you just do the main firmware or also downgrade to the 2.21 sensor hub?

That's why i decided to quit garmin for good. the only version they sell in my region is apac, and with every firmware introducing new bugs, and delay in apac update, i decided enough is enough. i moved on since 2months ago and have never been happier.

Yet, you come on a GARMIN forum, read GARMIN topics and posts and then make a concerted effort to sign in and post...you little rascal you ;D
