Fenix 5X Plus APAC. No Pulse OX

I own a 5X Plus APAC that I bought during a trip in Japan. I had the disappointment to discover that Garmin uses a Zone policy for the maps-language files and also that a delay is to be expected for firmware updates (up to date is 5.1 currently).

My main issue though is there is no Pulse OX widget available yet. This is very frustrating as that was my main reason to buy the watch. Is everybody with APAC experiencing the same problem or is it my watch related?
  • I have the APAC version. I am on 5.1 (didnt update to 6.0 due to Bike powermeter issues which is documented here on the forum).

The Pulse OX Widget is available and the setting for pulse OX for sleep is also available. However, I have turned OFF the pulse ox feature as it is largely useless (to me) and the reading seems to be erroneous anyways.

You could have purchased a finger pulse OX at a VERy much cheaper price and gotten better results. (just saying)

For Maps - I find that openstreet map is WAY WAY better than the default maps provided (at least for me). I don't quite care about topo or contour lines etc, so OSM works for me.. better too as it has more details when you zoom it in.
  • I have an Australian 5x Plus since August 2018, and if I recall correctly started with OS 5.0. Since I have automatically upgraded to OS 6.0. I do not use a powermeter with my watch.

I have always had the Pulse Ox widget and used the Pulse Ox function it in the field (well, mountains). It works for me. Perhaps not as precise as a specialist ‘on the finger’ tool, but great for monitoring trends and keeping an eye on levels.

I agree with Nikeow on the maps - Garmin is a bit behind the times with maps and the availability of different maps for a reasonable price.
