garmin explore / Mapshare and current location

if any of you guys are not aware yet, the new garmin explore website / app is now available and can be used w/ the Garmin Fenix 5x+ series (BETA) but it provides a kind of mobile device waypoint / map / route creation capability. it's a bit cumbersome but it roughly gets the job done.

The only thing which I've not been able to get going is mapshare and for it to update the exact GPS location I am in. It is simply not updating.

Wondering if anyone here is using this feature etc?
  • In case you were not aware. I was the last one who posted on that same thread u created.

  • I’ve been using Explore for a while now and I agree this is a capability that we need to broadcast to other users who may not be aware if it. The key bit to add to your text at the top is the maps are cached in the app and the whole route/waypoint creation and sync to Fenix 5/5+ series watch can all be done offline with no internet connection; so unique to any other solution out there and perhaps why it’s a little clunky (like it can’t route along roads/tracks/trails between 2 points, you just have to plot your route/course point to point manually).

The most useful thing I find is the speed with which I can quickly create waypoints and send them over to the 5+ as Saved Locations and let the 5+ then navigate to the points (all can be done offline in the back end of beyond of course)
  • Agree.. it is an alternative to using sendpoints CIQ app. We can even locate POIs using a search feature and then add it and send it to the watch. But the item which I still am looking for is basically what live track is missing. It's Missing where I am on a ROUTE! Otherwise, the person looking at the livetrack/mapshare has no idea where I am in reference to the map/route. BAH
  • It’s a pity that more detailed maps are only available for users in the USA, the European users have less detailed maps available...I hope more detailed maps will be added soon also for European users...

I don’t know if it is possible, but I like that idea:

if a user ( for example) bought a Garmin Topo/Topo pro map etc. for his with explore compatible device, this map should be available in explore for this user...
  • I am unclear of the subject you are reffering to Volker, as the current maps are adequate for me since I am not going for like day long hikes across multiple trails like you fellas in the USA etc.
I just want the track/route/course I am following and have my current position indicated on the explore website / mapshare for my spouse.
