Cycling FTP Issues on FW 6.0

I cycle with a power meter 2-3 times a week. The last time my Fenix 5X Plus wrote FTP value to Garmin Connect was on 6th of November. At that time I was on FW 5.53. Since then I've been on FW 5.57 Beta and now on 6.0 without a single FTP value written to Garmin Connect.

I rode with a Edge 520 Plus today, and although I didn't have any FTP change, the value was written successfully to Garmin Connect.

I've also noticed that the FTP and Watt/Kg sub-widget is missing from the Training Status widget on the Fenix 5x Plus.
  • Somewhere around firmware 5.57 a new bug was introduced to the watch. When an Ant+ power meter is connected using the usual sensor setup in the watch, there will sometimes be huge power spikes.

Nobody knows if it is all power meters or only some which are affected by this. I have not yet seen anyone reporting that Garmin's own Vector 3 pedals are affected.

So one guess could be that you are hit by this bug, and the power spikes disturb the FTP calculation. Do you see sudden 5 or 6 digit power spikes during cycling?
  • I'm not seeing any power spikes or any abnormal power readings. I'm running a Stages LR connected on ANT+.

If you open the Training Status widget on your watch, and scroll through the pages. Do you see your current FTP and W/kg numbers ?

I am not using a cycling power meter, so my watch doesn't show any FTP.
  • Looks like the FTP not updating to Garmin Connect is fixedin in 6.51 Beta. The W/kg sub-widget of Training Status widget is still missing.
