Fenix 5+ won't connect to Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds / headphones

UPDATE:

I took my Jabras out for a run with my iPhone and Fenix 5+ fully expecting to just connect my iPhone to my Jabras which has worked flawlessly. However suddenly my Jabras started tweaking out, connecting and disconnecting continuously right as I started the run activity on my F5+. I turned off the iPhone BT and voila - Jabras connected perfectly to my watch.

Went back home and tried again - no dice. Turned off my house's wifi - Jabra + F5+ connected flawless. Music continued playing after I turned wifi back on.

Suspected culprit: So it looks like the wifi is somehow interfering with the Jabra/watch connection, and somehow not allowing the earbuds to connect fully despite being detectable by the F5+.

Garmin or any one else - ideas on why this would be the case? Have you run into this issue?

ORIGINAL POST BELOW:

Just got my Fenix 5 plus and did the following:

-charged it up - no issues

-updated to 6.00 on Express - no issues

-connected to Spotify on Garmin Connect Mobile - no issues

-turned off my iPhone BT and all other BT connections in my house - no issues

-put my Jabra Elite Active 65t into pairing mode - no issues

-on the Fenix 5+ go to Add New > found Jabras - no issues

-click on Jabras and it goes into 'Connecting to Jabra Elite Act' loading screen - ends up as 'Failed to Connect Jabra Elite Act' every single time

Any advice? I'd be massively disappointed if they end up not being compatible, as this is the main factor in me getting this watch. I searched the forums here including for the Forerunner but no one seems to be having similar issues, which makes me hopeful that it's just user error and not a technical error that will take months to fix.
  • I have the same setup (Fenix 5X Plus and Jabra Elite Active 65t). Experienced the same problem as you. Make sure your phone is not connected at the same time and try again. I had to try several times, but they connected. After the first connection I have had no problems. In the future, make sure the phone is not connected to the earbuds when you try connecting them to the watch, as this will cause connection problems.

Thank you Taco. I should amend my post to say that I’ve turned off all Bluetooth smartphones in my house, and it still didn’t work.

Also tried hard resetting the watch a couple times.

Can I ask what version firmware your watch is? And how many times did you attempt to connect to the earbuds while in the blue blinking pairing mode? Did you try to re-pair or simply reconnect each time?

Firmware is 6.00. I reset my watch today to clean out apps and other stuff. Installed Spotify and downloaded a playlist to play offline. Then started the player and it asked for connection to headphones. Went through the bluetooth setup and it worked the first time. Now it connects to Jabra each time without I have to do anything (and the phone at the same time). Tried switching between playing Spotify on the phone and Garmin, no problem. I'm using a Samsung S9 Plus phone
  • Not connected with the problem (will continue to use my Elite Active 65t with my phone rather than my Fenix 5+).. but just wanted to say how awesome the headset is! Sound for calls is so good that it is my permanent work headset now too.
Bass and overall musicality could be way better.. but for running with the sound is great
.. having said that.. I had my first occurance of an earpiece falling out while running... it was pouring down, and the water ingress just meant they popped out.. luckily it was while running on a path and i spotted easily on the ground.. but with rain from now on I will be a bit more careful (yesterday I used a buff to go over my ears and prevent the rain pouring in and the earpiece falling onto ground.

when it fell out though the music stopped immediately until i put them back in and the music started automatically again! hahah :)
  • Same problem: Fenix 5 plus Sapphire with v.6 firmware, Jabra elite 65t, connected and worked first time, but can't connect since.

Fenix can see the Jabras, but fails to connect to them.

Considering they worked the first time, and my run was excellent, I'm frustrated.

Very annoying. Only the Garmin giving me issues, Jabras fine on all other devices and on the whole are brilliant.

This problem plus the inconsistent altimeter that randomly reads off by 1000m or more... Getting a bit fed up with my expensive Garmin.
  • I had the exact same issue. I removed the WiFi network from the watch and then it connected no problem. There seems to be a bug when there is a WiFi network configured in the watch and connecting to the Jabra headphones via BT.

Thanks Tomtuch.  Removing the wifi and readding worked for me.

I readded the wifi after pairing and connecting the Jabra Active 65t .  The and the Jabra won't connect after readding the wifi.  Hope there's a fix coming from Garmin soon!

Mine Jabra active 65t connect better when the Bluetooth is on on my phone and they pair with it first. Then I walk away from my truck with the phone in it and hear "one device connected" after the phone loses connection. If I turn Bluetooth off on my phone before I take the earbuds out of the case it takes many tries to connect.
