FW6 - Earphones connection dropping out as soon as app is running while playing music

Hi

Yesterday I updated to the official firmware release 6.00 of my F5X+.

I noticed that the connection to earphones (Bose Soundsport Free) has improved when only playing music. No dropouts no matter which hand the watch is on.

However, as soon as I went into the Applications menu and selected an application, connection to the earphones started dropping out every few seconds.

I stopped the application and went out of the applications menu and connection was constant again. Its as if when entering the applications menu bluetooth signal got weaker.

I tested this few times and it happened again and again to the point that I had to choose, music or app, which defeats the whole purpose of having a built in MP3 player.

Anyone has noticed that?
  • Also an issue for me on strength workouts with Dodocool wireless earphones. This has only been an issue with the last few firmware updates.

This is on two separate units of the 5X Plus (I got a replacement for a broken compass) so I suspect it’s software related.

Connecting the earphones before or after the activity starts makes no difference and the only way to correct the issue is to reboot the watch, try again and hope for better luck.

This is even an issue when Bluetooth is disabled on my phone or any other devices in the vincinity that may interfere.

This morning I bought the jabra elite active 65t and i’m not completly satisfied. Its works great indoor but I did a 8km run to test it with a spotify playlist and the first 3 km were a disaster. Constant drop-outs so bad that i could hardly enjoy running.
After 3 km i took it of my left wrist and put it to my right wrist and I had not 1 single drop-out anymore.

I don’t think i gonna wear my watch on right wrist all of a sudden or while running, because it feels unnatural

Same problem, same Jabras. And wearing the Feniz on my right wrist feels very wrong. To get around this, I wear the Jabras upside down and backwards in opposite ears. But this is a bad solution to Garmins problem.

    Please fix this Garmin.
  • Have guys updated to FW 7.10? I did and what do you know, it fixed the dropout issues I experienced with my Bose soundsport free ear buds. I tried them indoors and outdoors with apps while the watch is worn on my left wrist and I did not have a single dropout.
    Im really pleased now.

I can confirm that the experience with FW 7.1 and Jabra Elite Active 65t is much better than before. No need to re-pairing and during my last run I haven't noticed any dropouts. So it works finally!

I had the dropout issues with my Jabra Elite 65t. Very frustrating as I really like the watch and the earbuds. How do you start the music after you start the activity?

Hi, usually I start the music BEFORE the activity.

Press and hold the down button. That'll get you to the music screen.
  • I also still have issues with dropouts. It got way better after 7.1 (I thought) but it now behaves very strange.

I tested the connection indoors after the update and I didn't have any more dropouts even with GPS and Training active. I have to press the watch against my back to get dropouts. I also have a GPS fix indoors where I tried it out.

Soon after I did a real test outdoors with activity, training etc. and I had the same issues as pre 7.1.

I did some more testing today and can confirm that the dropouts begin as soon as i step to the balcony. I start the music, go to the activity menu, wait for GPS fix and start the activity, everything is fine. i can wave my arms around my body as crazy as I want, no dropouts. As soon as I step outside, I have dropouts just by standing straight with hanging arms. At this point music becomes unusable.

How can this be when the only parameter I change is beeing outside or inside while having GPS fix the whole time inside and outside.

It also doesn't make any difference if I first start the activity or first the music, the only thing making a difference is beeing outside.

I dind't try the 7.51 beta yet, anyone any experiences with the beta and music dropout issues?

    Thanks.

    Edit: I use Galaxy buds.
