Fenix 5+ version 6.0 notice

Checked on Garmin Express, and noticed that an update to Firmware Version 6.0 is available, along with BTLE, Sensor Hub, and something else was available. Anyone got the changelog so I can see what I've done to myself?
  • Did anybody copy the update files to the PC before doing the update? (GUPDATE.GCD and the files in RemoteSW?)

Here you are: https://ufile.io/vgram this is GUPDATE.GCD
and this is gup3014.gcd into remote sw folder : https://ufile.io/jnbtk
  • thbrod : Is this issue related only to native power data, and only cycling power?

I have a Stryd foot pod and would hate updating and suddenly get spikes that screws up everything, but the Stryd reports running power through it's own ConnectIQ app/datafield, so hopefully not affected?

I have the problem with beta 5.57. So if the problem is unchanged in 6.0, it works like this:
The Stryd Power data field is unaffected by the error. It will show a stable power.
If you connect the Stryd as a native ANT+ power meter, which is necessary if you want to use power in third party data fields for running, you will get the spikes. In my case, they are actually 6 digits, not 5!

I use the Datarun Premium data field, so I am affected by this problem. On my request, the developer, Joop Verdoorn, has implemented a spike filter in the "7 fields, Copy 1" version of Datarun Premium, which will simply ignore the spikes and reuse the power reading from the previous second when a spike appears. Datarun Premium has several different fields for average power. The spike filter is only implemented in the field showing average for the last xx seconds, not in the lap average power field or the overall average power field.
  • I just installed 6.0 and my music and podcasts no longer play. The icon for playing music is now gone, but if you click on the blank space, you can get to music & podcasts, but they will no longer play. Is anyone else having this problem and know how to fix it?

    Thanks -

Same exact issue, restar does not fix, neither change of headphones, my god, to have this with and official release and after all the """improvements""" with the music in betas....

    Today running without music :(
  • I have not tried Pod Casts but the music player and Bluetooth connectivity is the best it's ever been for me. I re-synced my music after the v6 upgrade and went on my normal Friday run and for the first time it didn't skip once. This was with the watch on my left wrist so I am absolutely impressed :)
  • I spoke to Garmin and they were helpful, but all they could suggest is a hard reset since the icon for music is now gone. Today is my first day running without music in a long tine. :(
  • Hard reset - press and hold power button for 15s - is always a good idea after a firmware update.
  • Neither a soft reset or a master reset worked. The music button is gone, and although the watch recognizes that music and podcasts are available, it will no longer play.
  • Garmin recommenced sending in photos of what I was seeing and data files. Since I had added Runcasts and upgraded to 6.0 at around the same time, I reached out to them. This is what they said:

"Have you used the player to switch Music Providers back to your preferred provider, like My Music or Spotify?

You do this on a 645m by holding down the up button in the player to bring up the menu. I’m guessing it’s similar on the 5S Plus.

Since you uninstalled Runcasts this sounds like an issue of Garmin not automatically switching the default provider back."

This solved the problem. The music player seems fully functional again. Being able to run with music is one of the main reasons I bought the watch.
  • 6.0 works with Explore; just tried it.

Can you get GE created Routes to appear on the watch? Pairing and syncing seems to work fine but I can't see as Courses ( under Navigate activity)
