Delta, Tactix and other watchfaces on Fenix 5x Plus?

Is it possible to get the official Garmin Watchfaces from other models on your Fenix 5x Plus? Would really like the one from the Delta series!

You could probably install the D2 Delta PX firmware, but that would also bring all other features with it.
  • Nope, can't install D2 Delta PX FW on a f5x+ - it won't break anything,as the watch knows it's the wrong FW and just deletes it.

If you want a watch face from another device -

The best thing to do is suggest someone build one like it in Connect IQ. And the place to do it is:

Not if you use the WebUpdater and put the watch in Preboot mode. That's how I converted my f5+ into a D2 Delta. However, to go back to the f5+ firmware, I had to modify a firmware file as the D2 bootloader doesn't come with a Preboot mode (or I didn't find it).
  • You know there is a HW difference with the D2 right? And you voided your warranty at the same time....

I'm pretty sure there's no hardware difference whatsoever. Only the case is different. Also, as it's back to the original f5+ firmware and bootloader now, I don't see how this little experiment could have any effect on the warranty...
  • Read the warranty. What you did (loading the incorrect FW for the device) voids it. It's come up before when people hacked FW so they load the ROW version on an APAC device.

They LAST thing you want to do is post how others can do the same.

If you want to experiment, fine, but you should understand the implications. (I don't think you did)

BTW, seems there is a difference in the HW. but I doubt you checked and just assumed.

Not in the EU. They would have to prove that the damage was done by the "improper" firmware. And even then the warranty would still be valid for things like the housing, straps, buttons, glass, etc.

In the end its like installing Linux on your Windows PC. That also doesn't void the warranty.

Also having different hardware in the devices is not at all economic. It's more cost effective to produce the same hardware and sell it with different firmwares. And even if there was a slight hardware difference, it doesn't seem to matter as all D2 features worked fine for me. (Well, didn't test Connext, but that works over BT/WiFi which worked just fine.)

EDIT: You can check the hardware components by looking at your GarminDevice.xml and comparing the component SKUs.

    fenix 5 Plus:
    006-B2957-00 - GPS firmware
    006-B3014-00 - Sensor Hub firmware
    006-B2196-02 - WiFi firmware
    006-B3153-00 - ANT/BLE/BT firmware
    006-B2822-01 - NFC firmware

    D2 Delta:
    006-B2957-00 - GPS firmware
    006-B3014-00 - Sensor Hub firmware
    006-B2196-02 - WiFi firmware
    006-B3260-00 - ANT/BLE/BT firmware
    006-B2822-01 - NFC firmware

You could now think, the ANT/BLE/BT firmware is different. But if you download both files and compare them, the only difference is the SKU (and checksum). They are functionality-wise completely identical.
