Does anyone know if this will improve battery life for both a fenix 5 plus and a fenix 5s plus? They are one week old and had two charges so far. They currently have 5.10.

Floors climbed during activity is still broken.
Went for a run today and watch reported my elevation gain as 95 ft, which was reasonable for the run. But then it reports 12 stairs climbed, should be 1 at most based on the elevation gain. Should be an easy fix I'd think...
  • Is that right? Surely that's reporting 12 flights of steps which might not be too far off if based on a domestic residence. Why would you expect only 1 flight based on elevation gain of 95 feet? I understand the definition of a flight of stairs is arbitrary, but I would suggest that 95 feet represents more than 1 flight.

There is a plethora of information out there about steps that might guide your thinking including this - https://www.quora.com/How-many-steps-are-there-normally-in-a-flight-of-stairs-1-2-a-floor

Not sure exactly how many feet in a flight of stairs, but if each step is 6 inches and there are 12 feet in one flight, that’s 72 feet. So 95 feet would be 1-2 flights based on that. This is a pancake flat route, with minimal elevation gain, so I know I’m not climbing 12 flights of stairs during it. Yesterday I climbed about 700 feet and it said 88 flights of stairs. Yes it was a hilly run but 88 flights is a lot.
But prior to the 5.51 update, the stairs climbed during activity was much less. So for the same run with 95 ft of elevation, it would say 1-2 stairs climbed (it is a route I have run frequently). So I was used to that. Then after 5.51 the numbers changed quite dramatically and I don’t think they are right.
  • Just found this about Floors Climbed. One floor ~ 10' therefore 95 feet ~ 9.5 floors.

Your thinking is off. Just as Garmin's estimate of your floors might be a bit off. However, the link will give you some more information about why there might be an error. Like most things, these are estimates aimed to give you something to relate to, rather than an accurate number.
  • For reference the empire state building is 1250ft tall and has 102 floors(or flights of stairs), which works out to about 12ft per flight.
  • if each step is 6 inches and there are 12 feet in one flight, that’s 72 feet.

I just want to be sure: Are you multiplying inches and feet to get feet?

Try it in another way: You are probably around 6 feet high. So if there is 72 feet from one floor to the next, you would have to climb your own height 12 times to get from one floor to the next. If that sounds reasonable to you, I want to live where you live.
  • I had my first stall reset on this firmware...right before my race. Essentially just would not play music after saying headphones connected. I did a turn off, and the watch just showed the little circle with line in it for like 5 min until i held down for a hard reset.

Thinking the charging and constant look to spotify update playlists may have cuased it to be wonky

Yeah I just realized I did not do that math correctly. In any case, I do think that version 5.51 and 5.57 are overreporting flights climbed. Certainly they are reporting more flights climbed than in previous software versions and I am doing the same route. So something has changed with how the watch is calculating floors climbed.
