I'm moving from F5 to the plus model and have taken a backup of all files. Would I be able to restore this to the plus model so I get to retain most of the sport data or would it not work?

I have restored my Fenix 5+ from a backup of my old Fenix 5x, and the locations, stats, (if you copy the activity folder under Garmin, and backup worked like a charm. Certain folders have to be put in the actual folder in the 5+, and not in the "newfiles", or "RemoteSW" folders, but generally, everything came across fine.

Ah okay, thanks. So best to try adding most content from each folder to the new files on F5+ and if some don't show then add to the other folders. Not heard of RemoteSW folder though,
Once stuff added to new, assume just restart te F5+ and it updates with new content?
for anyone that reads in future - true up worked. got past 30 days synced to the new F5+, including v02 and LTR. Only thing I had to copy to new files was records.
