Create Custom Workout and NO GPS

Hi guys,

really new to the Garmin software and Fenix 5 Plus.

AM looking to try and find out how to create a custom workout without the GPS turned on? I can create a custom workout and transfer / see it on the watch but I dont want the GPS on.

Any ideas how to go about this?

Thanks,
Jon
  • You can't define GPS status in the workout itself. You have to disable GPS manually for the activity profile before starting the workout.
  • Elaborating on what tmk2 said:
GPS on or off is a user setting in each activity app. So you can choose an activity app, like Indoor Run, which doesn't have GPS enabled. Or you can use an outdoor app, like Run, and switch the GPS off in the settings for the Run app.

You should actually think more about the type of workout when you design it. If you create it for running, you can't use it for bicycling, etc. So you have to choose a workout type which fits the activity app you are going to use.
  • Thanks guys. Yeah, I understand about using a different app for different activities but when creating it on the Connect site I am given very limited options ( see pic ).

Must I create the custom workout on Connect and then modify the GPS settings from the watch?

    Cheers!

  • Why are those options in your image not enough? They are the same options that I have. I think you need to tell us what type of activity you are going to do.
  • Must I create the custom workout on Connect and then modify the GPS settings from the watch?

Yes. The other option is to create different activity with the GPS set to off as advised above.
  • A "workout" is something you do during an "activity".

You start the "activity" then you select a "workout" to do.

So, create the workout. Synchronise to your device. Then choose the activity you want to do the workout in. For instance, you could choose "Cardio".

When in Cardio, press up, then select "Training" then "My Workouts".

You will then be good to go.

Workout = the details of what you want to do
Activity = how you want to record what you did
