going from F5 - F5 plus

I currently have a Fenix 5 Sapphire but might be able to get my hands on the plus model instead. I just wanted anyone's opinion on reasons to NOT go for it. I can see that the battery takes a slight dip from 2 weeks to 10 days in watch mode, but that is still great and hoping it wouldn't be too noticeable if I'm not using music.

Looks-wise, the bezel appears a bit thinner, otherwise both super similar.

For me, the main advantage would be the mapping, but would love to hear what you think!

Thanks,
  • Well it's maps and faster processor. I don't think there is any other difference other than hopefully a OHR that doesn't crack.
  • I did the move from FR935 to the 5+ Saphir. So far I am satisfied, but struggling with one issue :

    Fenix 5+ V 5.53 / Spotify / Jaybird X4
    -> battery drain is o.k.
-> out of training mode no issues
-> starting training mode (running/light on/ Spotify) permanent dropouts for appr. 5 Minutes - after this the system is running o.k. (1 dropouts each 10 minutes)

I will send this experience also to the support team.

  • I recently went from a Forerunner 935 (basically a Fenix 5 plastic) to a 5 plus sapphire. So far I love it. I mainly wanted the upgrade in looks, Garmin Pay and Spotify. Battery life is shorter though. Whether its worth it for you that's your decision as the price is quite high.

    Could you try:

Start the music after you've started the Activity.

Or, if the music is started before, change music providers away from Spotify, then back, and it'll be fine without chop.

    And report back?

do you think it's just music that might be causing the lower battery compared to FR935? How often are you needing to charge it?

Recently, I definitely noticed this issue happen a few times recently. Where the Bluetooth music connection starts cutting off. It's annoying as when it happens while you are ready to go off on a run and need to fumble around to disconnect and reconnect the headphone to try and fix the issue.
  • battery life is noticeably less than FR935 regardless of whether you are using music. The biggest difference I have noticed is it takes WAAAAY longer to charge than the FR 935 did. The 935 was usually ~1%/min while the F5+ I have tracked at ~1%/4min. It takes hours to charge my F5+ from even 50%.

Yeah I have noticed that as well. Are you on the beta?
  • It has been the same charging on a Beta firmware or release. I have been on at least 6 different firmware versions since I got the watch and all of them take way longer for the watch to charge. I'm currently on 5.53 beta
  • So it's only really the battery issue that is putting me off. I usually charge my F5 once a week anyway so for standby I don't really need anymore.. however I am looking at doing my first IM next year so would be worried about it failing to last 10-15 hours GPS without having to use ultratrac..
