Moving up from 3HR: Upgrade process recommendations

Hey folks,
Thanks for all your posts in here, I’ve been lurking here for a while and will be making the jump soon, retiring my trusty 3HR and upgrading to 5+.

Some stuff may migrate from Connect, and I don’t think the Physio True up will grab old data from the 3HR, so do you have any recommendations for how to pull the most information over to the new device?

What setup advice do you have?

Are there things you you would’ve done differently (or ways I should pay attention to) when setting things up?
thanks a lot,
Rex
  • I upgraded from the VA3 to the F5+ in July, and I remember the setup as quite easy and straight forward.

I think most metrics are synced automatically from Connect, but after you complete the setup you should probably double check that your user settings has been transferred successfully. (Body weight, height, max hr, pulse zones etc.)

Regarding Physio TrueUp, this isn't really depending on the device that has recorded the data to Connect, it's a matter if the new device is able to pull the data from Connect. So in your case, Physio True Up should work as a charm with the F5+ as long as the relevant data is available in Connect. (I don't know the details of the F3, but I assume it records stuff like VO2max, training load, training status etc.?)
  • I agree that there isn't much to this... mostly just setting up the watch face, widgets, and activities / activity screens / data fields to your liking. The only thing I would suggest is that once you've linked the new watch to your Garmin account and before you start your first activity, be sure to send your personal records to the new watch. Otherwise it will be like you are new to everything and you'll get a lot of "Fastest Mile" and "Longest Run" alerts that aren't really accurate. You send these to the watch by going to the Garmin Connect webpage, select "Personal Records" from the menu bar on the left, select the sport (running, cycling...), and then click on "Send to Device".
