Wifi username/password

Anyone knows if it is possible to log on to a network that need both username and password? At home I only use passphrase, but at work we need both password and username. I stay at work for two weeks each time, so it would have been nice to be able to use wifi-network with my f5x for updating Spotify-lists, etc.
  • I think it is possible but you need to use Garmin Express with your watch plugged in for the first login to a new wifi network.
  • Thx. Will try that tonight. Hope it works.
  • Hello, could you Connect the APP.
    Connect app
    Watch
    Generally
    WLAN settings.
  • Didn't work. When I try to configure our network here at work it is only possible to add password, not username and password. Same as if I try to add network from my watch. Network discovered, asking for password only.:(

I'm pretty sure the watch can only do PSK, not any of the more complicated authentication variants. You could set up your mobile phone as a hot spot.
  • I'm working on an oilrig in the north sea so no mobile coverage here and therefor no hot spot.
Guess I have to live without wifi on the watch. No crisis, but no sync for Spotify either. Thx for all answers.

There might be WiFi extenders that can login to your company WiFi and provide a "normal" (less secure) WiFi. But that might be against company policy.

I'm not sure, but I think I've read somewhere that recent Android versions can use the phone's WiFi for their hotspot. Basically acting as such WiFi extender. If your phone is rooted, there was an app called fqrouter2 some time ago. Maybe it still works.

I was trying this the other day, via the IQ app, and it(something) kept turning off my hotspot feature on my iPhone. Going to try to do it manually in the next couple of days.

I had the same issue when I was using a Wifi Mesh network (I have an Orbi Tri-band router).

    After reading this post: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/fenix-5x/156362-wifi-connection-problem

I realized that the Fenix 5 Plus's wifi antenna may not be picking up the correct channel. Luckily for me, I had an old router lying around (TP-Link AC1900), I booted that one up and configured it to only broadcast 2.4GHZ on channel 1 (you may have to use different channels). Then I added the wifi network via Garmin Connect on my phone. It finally was able to connect and download music.

I understand that you're on an oilrig and the above solution may not be viable, but maybe with a configurable hotspot? I'm not sure, but this is definitely a Garmin Wifi Antenna issue.
  • So I tried this the other day, specifically for Spotify sync. It seems that the Fenix 5XP must talk to Connect IQ for some Spotify information, and then switches over to sync on wifi.

So I verified ConnectIQ and the 5XP were able to communicate.
I manually enabled my hotspot and left the iPhone settings in the foreground.
I manually setup a new wifi config on the 5XP, with my hotspot and password. I observed the blue bar indicating a connected device on the iPhone.
I went to the Spotify app, and selected to sync a new playlist.

What I observed is that for a few seconds the wifi hotspot was dropped, and then when the sync screen actually came up on the 5XP, the wifi was re-established, and the app was able to sync music on-trail.
