Garmin Express connection issue

For some reason my new 5X+ will not connect to garmin Express on my PC. Which is a Surface Pro running Windows 8.1 Pro.

it will, however, connect to my wife's PC. A Surface book running Windows 10.

Any ideas how to fix? And installing Windows 10 on my pc not a possibility.

Garmin help desk thinks it something to do with Mass Storage vs MTP. Anyone had this issue?

In some cases Win10 struggles with mtp mode whereas mass storage works. Maybe your Win8 is having similar issues?
