Along with cleaning the connectors, try this.
With the watch not connected, hold three buttons down (light, down and start buttons) for 15-20 seconds and try charging again.
I just finished chatting with Erica from Garmin Support Centre. The chat took less than 10 minutes and resulted in them sending me a refurbished watch, and I'll send in the defective one when I receive…
Mine wouldn't charge at ALL. I did your trick thinking it wouldn't work as there was no power left but it worked. Thank you!
Thanks for this!
the 3 button hold worked - thanks for the help - what does the 3 button hold do?
I am assuming a hard reset.
I was having the same problem. Days would go by and I could not charge at all. Just tried what you said eg. hold the buttons for 20 seconds and it sprung to life. Thanks so much for the tip
I thought there was absolutely no chance of this working, but it did!
the male connectors for the Garmin charger (those on the charger dock itself not on the actual device) are made of Copper. Copper obviously tarnishes over time, and I believe that it is this tarnishing that prevents the watch from Tarnishing, as it prevents a clean connection between the connectors on the watch and the connectors on the charging cable.
You can remove the tarnish by gently using a very sharp knife across the connectors on the device - this should remove the tarnish and give you a clean connection.
BLUF, The three button method worked for mine! TYVM!
So I have a fenix 5x plus sapphire that I purchased in 2020. It has never had a charging issue and for some reason it wouldn't charge tonight. It was completely dead for those who want to know. I tried cleaning the contacts on the charger and the watch. I tried various wall chargers and car chargers. Nothing worked. I finally decided to look it up and found this post. I did the three button method (hold down the light, down and start buttons for 15 seconds) and it worked.
Good luck to everyone else who has the same problem and thanks again to those who spent their time sharing the solution with us!
The three button trick worked for me as well. Thanks for the tip.
What sorcery is this?!?! Thank you.
Also worked for me, tks!
