"Added support for the Spotify Connect IQ Music App"

Yeah, superb GARMIN! ... that's all your customers were waiting for...
AGAIN NO BUGFIXES AT ALL??? WTF!!!!
  • Actually a lot of people have requested Spotify support and for us this is a big thing.

For me the v5.x releases are actually working quite good :-)

When i review your posts, you really seem to be a fortuned who magically isn't affected by the common bugs. :)
  • I agree - judging by the number of people who requested it over on the Spotify site, this is a huge feature for loads of people.

Combined with the improvements to BT/ANT, GPS improvements, music player improvements, and battery, the 5.X firmware has been extremely positive for me.

Having looked at the evolution of the software released for previous devices I’m sure the known issues will be resolved.

I’m also sure that even if they are solved there is a small minority of users here that will find the next thing to be disgruntled about.

....one could get the impression that this is a Garmin driven "happy customer - positive feedback - bug ignoring" campaign.
  • Nah, just trying to provide some perspective.

You come across as angry in your first post because a point release is done specifically to support a major feature that has been requested/queried for as long as the device has been released.

Given this major feature is out the way, surely you’d be excited that the attention of the development team can shift to the other issues such as virtual racer not working?

The developers no doubt browse here and I want to show support for the good work done so far, so that they are motivated to keep doing good work, avoiding the situation where the only feedback they get is negativity, attacks, and complaining.
  • We would like Garmin's teams to be effective in solving the problems of their sports customers by seriously improving sleep analysis, for example, in order to better monitor recovery aspects.
This seems to me a priority over the "entertainment" aspects.

Ever thought of hiring at Garmin for public relations? ;)
I am sure you got a very good or at least creative argument why fixing e.g. a totally wrong and UNRELIABLE battery indication on an 800,-USD ++ watch has lower priority (since months!) than any music feature.
Even more knowing that fixing a battery algorithm is really trivial.
Except the software guys have no idea of battery theory, or the hardware design is lacking an usual coulomb counter - which would be a desaster since otherwise this bug will never be fixabel.
OUCH!! I don't wanna imagine that case - but the longer this issue is not addressed it really may be the case.
  • Nah, no interest in hiring for any form of public relations as my real world skills would be wasted.

However, I do think that Garmin could do with hiring some one to manage the community and help clearly and often detail the rough plans within Garmin (although that could cause all sorts of new issues - mostly to do with expectation management - which is perhaps why they don't do it).

As for the battery issue? Or sleep issue? No idea. I have been reading the forums to see if I could tug out an explanation but I'm as lost as you. The fact they haven't been fixed, even though there are claims by users that it should be trivial to do so, means that it isn't trivial to do so (the easy-to-fix and easy-to-please-customer bugs are the ones you tend to fix first). I am also sure that the people working on the music aren't necessarily the same people who work on the low level hardware subsystems etc (you don't have web developers at Microsoft also working on USB drivers).

I wonder if it is worth having a bug mega thread, to cleanly track all community issues, where they got resolved. Could have an always updating first post to link to the various other conversations. Might help remove some of the noise from the bug reporting signal. That way repeat posts about the same issues are reduced, and people have a one stop shop to see what the state of play is?
  • Same here, just made the update fully charge the watch @ 100% and then Reboot it and the battery level droped to 94% :-) not really satisfied, so still issues with battery as before 5.x... Hope Garmin is going to solve this issue soon!
  • It’s a nice upgrade since I don't use Spotify and have lost all smart notifications. Now, more patience to get it fixed.
