Spotify App

I know Spotify is firmly in bed with Samsung right now. I don't know if someone is developing an app to easily transfer playlists over or not, but does someone know of an easy way to get music over to the device? I pretty much just use Spotify on my phone while working out so don't have anything downloaded to my PC yet.

Just wanted to see if anyone had an easy way to transfer Spotify to the device. Thanks.

I followed DC Rainmakers instructions, got it working on 5.0, then noticed the firmware update afterwards. U[dated anyway, no difference I can see, so I'm wondering what the change is. Perhaps it's just integrated? Do 5.1 users have to install the Connect CIQ Spotfiy app as well?

As far as I can tell the only difference is that the playlist pictures now show on the watch, which I'm pretty sure wasn't the case yesterday on 5.0 but I could be wrong.
  • I'm on 5.10 now, but the playlist pictures (or song pictures) are not shown. But maybe this is due to the fact that I have installed the app and synchronized the playlist, while being on 5.0 still...

Great job on the Spotify app! Went for a 8 mile run listening to music on my Trekz Air headphones, and absolutely no dropouts. Couldn't figure out how to set a playlist to repeat, though.

Now if you could just figure out why my watch drained 4% battery in the 90 minutes following the run...
  • Anybody know the bitrate of the offline music? 96 or 160 kbps?

The sound quality is not that good I think if I compare it to my bought Apple Music...

Not quite sure about the bitrate but I assume this depends on your settings in the spotify app. Once stored on your phone, I believe the files just duplicate on the watch storage, with the same properties as they were initially downloaded... (but I might be wrong)

No, I don't think there's any link between the Spotify app on your watch and the settings or downloaded files in the Spotify app on you phone (or tablet, or mac, or PC for that sake, which could all have different settings for downloads as far as I know).

The Spotify app on your watch is syncing directly and independently with Spotify servers through WiFi.
  • The phone settings does not affect the Spotify app on the watch, it is independent and download music direct from Spotify. On my phone I have set to stream and download in 320 kbps.

The watch music lacks in dynamic and high tones in my opinion...

I will have a look at the file size on the downloaded playlists next time I connect the watch to my computer. I think that the bitrate is max 160 kbps.

It would be nice to have a setting in the app to control the bitrate, storage is no problem so 320 kbps would work...
  • Thanks for clearing this out ! I'm ok with the quality of the music files personally.. i'm using cheap bluetooth headphones without aptX so there's not much point in using 320 kbps. But then again it's just me :)

    Agreed!

Personally I have not noticed poor sound quality from the watch, but then again I've only tested it a few times while running/exersising and for that it's more than good enough. For audio purists I would suggest listening from a completely different device from a completely different source, but that's not really the purpose of having Spotify on your training watch eh?

I'm not pointing at anyone, but I think a lot of people are generally too hung up in numbers and bitrates while they would easily fail an A/B test...
