HRM-RUN "battery low" warning?

The HRM-RUN transmits its battery status to the watch. This is is visible in Settings | Sensors & Accessories | [Name of HRM] | About.

Have anyone ever seen a battery status which is not "OK" or "--"?
("--" seems to mean that I have to wait a few seconds for the status to be updated.)

Is there any way to get a warning on the watch when the battery gets low?

Is there any way to see the battery level in a custom data screen in an activity?

I am asking all these questions because I have never been able to know in advance when the HRM-RUN failed due to low battery, even though I quite often go to the About screen to check battery level. The About screen always says "OK", or briefly "--". And a few days later the HRM-RUN suddenly stop working, and I have to replace the battery.
  • I’ve gotten a pop up warning about my foot pod battery being low, but I don’t remember ever seeing one for the HRM-RUN.
  • Yep, I’ve had it from my HRM-Run to my Fenix 5X.
  • I just discovered that the battery voltage of the HRM-RUN is recorded in the .fit files from my F5X+.

To see the voltage, I need to open the file in Fit File Repair Tool, which is a quite lengthy process, and then I can see the voltages recorded at the start and end of the run, and on long runs also 1 or two voltages recorded in mid run.

So far, however, it hasn't made me any wiser. The voltages before and after my latest battery replacement were more or less the same. Right now the voltage is actually lower than it was before the last replacement, and the HRM-RUN is still functioning.

So it is of course possible that the HRM-RUN failed for another reason than battery voltage being too low, and removing/inserting a battery just happened to fix the problem.
  • I use my HRMs for app development and training, and I had a simular question about the hrm battery life. So i added in my HeartMonitor+HRV app the HRM Battery status: Total cumulative HRM time as an IQ stat and the HRM bat status: new, ok, low and critical indications as an display outputx I found the total time before dying is about ~350 hours and the watch never reads anything other than OK. I will get low battery warnings but never had low in the watch hrm sensor status.

  • Thank you for the information.

Regarding the total accumulative time: I think this is not always reset during a battery change. It is recorded in the .fit files, and when looking back through my .fit files, the time counter survived some battery replacements, but no all of them.
