Routable Cycle Map of Europe 2018.10

Can anyone explain how this map actually works on a Fenix 5x? Have connected to Garmin Express this evening and this was showing as an available update. Have successfully updates but am just wondering when and how the map is used. Is it the default map for bike activities (different to hiking/walking map?)
