New purchase woes

Okay, I finally bit for a Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire. Nice looking watch, but after figuring out the hoops to jump through to get music on it (I have a Mac) I still couldn’t get it to acknowledge the music on the watch. Garmin Express showed the music, but the only option for music was Spotify. Hmm. Then, after charging to 100% at about 4pm, the next morning the battery was at 27%! It went back, but now I’m wondering if I did something wrong, or should have done something else. Any ideas, anyone?
  • You should be able to direct the music app on the watch to look to the watch itself instead of Spotify. (Which is also weird because I didn't think Spotify was an available option, just iHeartRadio and Deezer...at least for USA). Anyway, this is done in the music app itself directly on the watch. If you dive into the music app and scroll around to the selection just below settings (which is source, but is currently just blank when I go there...also weird), then hold the up button to dive into it's menu, you can then select "Music Providers" which gives you several options. One is "My Music" and that will be what you downloaded onto the watch. You can also choose from the available streaming apps (on mine it is iHeartRadio and Deezer), as well as "Control Phone." I'm on Android...so can't help much with the Apple universe side of this.

Regarding the charging issue / battery life...there is a thread already running about this. Garmin has reached out asking for information such that they can troubleshoot and hopefully solve this. I am currently getting about 50% of the battery life that was advertised...but recognizing that my watch settings may be affecting this as well.

DUH! Yes, you are right, it was iHeartRadio, not Spotify. My bad there. Okay, I didn't know you could scroll from that menu that just showed the iHeartRadio. I really want to like the 5+, it does so much more of what I want it to do than my Apple Watch. I guess I'll go back, and buy it again, and give it a bit more than a one day try this time. Need to not frustrate so easily. :-)
Thanks for the answer, I think it may help.
  • The reason for seeing 'Spotify' on the watch is probably because the watch is able to show/control music on your phone when connected via bluetooth, so if Spotify is running on the phone it will probably show up on the watch. jlgranth is correct - you should try selecting 'My Music' as source on the watch in order to access the music stored internally on the watch.
