Pre-loaded maps (Asia) to (Europe)

I was under the impression you couldn't change the region specific maps that are loaded with the device when bought. Though you could either download freeware maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ or buy TOPO maps from Garmin direct.

Thank you for this valuable information. I will look into it once I get some time.

I was also looking for a way to back up all the information in the past, as I have had some freezes during activities. After doing a hard reset had to re-apply all the settings etc which was a pain!

The gmapprom.img and gmapprom1.img files (TopoActive Europe East and West) I have in my watch and posted on the mediafire.com server don't have the corresponding *.unl files... so it seems they are not device locked.

Maybe there is some other way the watch checks it, but I don't have a way to test if the maps work in another area specific watches.

So, If you try it and it works please inform me and I will add the info to the 'Hard reset, firmware reinstall, data location and backup!'post.

Maybe Rolanss could upload the maps from his watch to some server, otherwise you can use the freeware maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl

What I found is, if you connect the device to "Garmin Express" it will automatically (at least for me) upload European maps. In fact, here is the attachment of all the maps that were installed on my watch since last sync.

I am trying to get all the maps off my watch to a folder in order to share all the maps, but keep getting this error "data error cyclic redundancy check".

It seams to work anyway.
