Fenix 5X+ has started to shut off on it's own

Due to other issues I am now on my second 5x+ and those issues (display bugs (I have another topic open for that)) persist. But a problem I didn't have with that watch and havn't had with this watch up until now showed it's face yesterday. The watch started to turn off on it's own. During a meeating I saw the watch being off when lifting my arm to see the time. At first I couldn't even get it started again, but after a couple of tries it turned on again. Well, later that evening it did it again and then 2 times during the night (I woke up to it being dead on my wrist and you can see in the app how the sleep tacking has stopped during these shutdowns). I have now reset it and havn't had a problem for a couple of hours, but I will update here if it persists.

Anyone else having problems like this?

  • I am sorry your Fenix 5X Plus developed the behavior you are describing. When it comes to the issue your watch developed, there is only so much that can be done to resolve it. The end result…

  • No, but I got a few artifacts on the screen - not as bad as yours for sure. You can see the extra white pixels on the right "55" in my photo. Those seemed to come and go on mine.

Did you send it back yet?

UPDATE: Sent it back today, so I'll guess I won't have anything to add for about a week. I will come back and update this thread when I get the new watch.

Even just the artifacting is horrible... this watch is to expensive to have these kinds of problems... I just feel that it's lazy work to release it like this. This is beta unit problems, not finished product problems.

Had to get my children out of preschool early so I havn't had the time to do it yet. Though it is all ready to ship. It only makes me sad when I lift my arm to see the time and is greeted with a black screen... So later today or tomorrow it will go back.
  • Hi, yes I have extract same problem with my fenix 5x plus. It even turns off during a run, bike activities. Very enoying. Also turns off after activities when hit the save button, sometimes saves a other times dosent. I've contact garmin several times. Telling to try things I've already tried. Also the watch doesn't connect to garmin express on laptop to update maps and other high Information updates. It does connect to garmin connect most of the time. I've used ios and android phones.

  • I have this same problem:( after its random shutdown i am able to turn it back on only by pressing all buttons together (it's hard reset i believe).

Many times it won't even starts when all buttons been longpressed, it needs to be longpressed for aprox 4 times.

Its really a mindf*ck to be trying to start it back on.

And when in time period from random shutdown until hard reset, it won't even show when charging, so it seems completely dead.

    Please help watch-friends:)

  • Happened to me, lucky still in warranty Garmin replaced it, as I could no longer get it to turn on.

  • Mine is doing the same thing!

Was hoping it was a firmware problem. Going to need to send it into Garmin I think.

  • Same here, 3 in a row... This is the second Garmin 5Plus I'm having issues with.

  • I have deleted all the activities on the device (as recommended by a Reddit user) and weirdly it seems stable again. Will see how it goes .... Expecting it to crash again tbh

  • My Fenix 5x+ is also performing as described in this thread. I have called Garmin (work hours are VERY inconvenient). The help has been very cordial but, very ineffective. I gave up on Garmin Express (Mac interface is, well, nonexistent) and used the Web Updater. Now says the "file is corrupted." I guess I do not understand why the thing just all of a sudden started doing this. It has been a great watch. I bought it when they first came out so I am probably way out of warranty. This is so frustrating. We have numerous Garmin wearable devices in my family and have been brand loyal. I was already thinking of replacing this watch with the new solar model but...I am seriously considering a Sunnto product to replace this watch. I mean really, if I cannot rely on this watch, why would carry it to the woods and get lost? I wonder how many others have this problem. Why would Garmin allow this to go on?
