We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5S Plus: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=14333
Fenix 5 Plus: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=14331

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

4.65 Change Log Notes:
  • Fixed issue where ANT sensor data would drop during an activity when connected to a Bluetooth 5.0 smartphone (ANT/BLE/BT 2.91 software)
  • Improvements to the Music Player
  • Various bug fixes
**Update** GPS FW 2.24 has been added to the download links above. Our public beta users are encouraged to load the new GPS firmware and use it for their next activities. If there are any activities where the GPS performance did not improve, we would like to see them. This also includes if comparing to previous activities. To send data to us for evaluation, please include the following in an email to "][email protected]:
  • FIT file(s) from Garmin\Activity folder
    • FIT files from previous activities if comparing same routes

  • GarminDevice.XML from the Garmin folder
  • Subject line of email must use the following format: ‘Fenix 5+ Series - GPS 2.24 Evaluation - DATE_ForumUserID_ActivityType’ (ex. "20180823_odsweng_Walk")
Following these instructions will ensure your email and files are delivered and sorted correctly. Lastly, you will not get an email reply unless we need more information from you, but rest assured, the data sent will be evaluated.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.
  • Yes, you need something like ATP, as Apple doesn't want to support generic media devices. Apple LOVES to have a closed ecosystem.
  • Didn't found improvement in GPS track neither, 1 sec recording, walking and GPS 2.24. When i move between some buildings the track is a crazy drunk...

    Blue: F5 plus.
    Yellow: real walked track.

I honestly don't think you'll ever be able to expect better tracks than what you're currently seeing, unless Garmin chooses to "lie" about the GPS data and purposely smooths over the variances. Those buildings will always present a problem for super accurate GPS tracks, especially from a single band device as small as a watch.
  • I´ve run 3 times with this version. The HRM-RUN Running dynamics issue seemed solved but it isn´t. Now, I don't have to turn the watch Bluetooth off to get advanced dinamycs BUT the HR is wrong, totally off the chart. First time I noticed I thought I had a bad day, but yesterday I Run with the HRM-RUN Tri on but disconnected from the watch so the watch would take the HR from the optical sensor (well snugged). When I finished I reloaded the activity from the HRM Tri ("download HR) so the Garmin Connect App duplicates the activity, one whit the optical HR and the other with the HRM. And they are totally different, besides I did several pauses to check manually my HR during the activity and the optical was right.

I have to try again (not until Wednesday) but if I'm right it's really messed up because the HR readings are essential for other parameters.

Anyone with HRM-Tri has noticed an increase in his/her HR?

I've updated GPS only and it seems a bit better. Not night and day, but OK from the few activities I've tried.

Can I also update the WiFi, BT/Ant and Sensor hub elements but not the main system? So far I'm happy with 3.1 and don't want to lose swimming data and date in my watch faces.

Don't think this is true, you do have precise track with Polar v800, will try the upcoming Polar Vantage V and compare to the F5+.
  • Do the Polar devices truly track the position more accurate or are they smoothing out the data? GPS isn't nearly as accurate as people think it is, especially in city environments. I will try to compare a log made with my Garmin GPSMAP 62st with a log of a Fenix 5 Plus to see if there is a huge difference. I do expect the Fenix 5 Plus to be a bit less accurate because of the constraints in the receiver part compared to the quad helix antenna of the GPSMAP.

If the software guys don't combine GPS with the built in motion sensors, the results in difficult reception situations will NEVER be any better than what we see here in the forum.
  • How would that work, Forerunner? How would a gyroscope and/or accelerometer improve gps tracking of your position?

Can‘t tell details because it‘s related to my work but look for kalman filter for example.
  • Interresting. Thank you.

But this would filter out sudden jumps (back and forth) in position due to for example a brief loss of receipt to one satellite or the signal bouncing off a building, because the accelerometer did not register a relative acceleration which would go with the position jump. The “poor” tracks shown in this forum are usually smooth and without such spikes. I’m probably on thin ice here. :)

Is there a watch out there that does this in realtime?
