Change APAC Firmware to ROW

Hi,

I recently purchased the APAC version of the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus but discovered that language and maps cannot be set to resp Dutch and Europe due to different firmware. Does anyone know if it is possible to change the firmware to ROW (Rest of World) and how to do this?

And once again, if you looked into the reason behind a ROW and an APAC version you would understand why Garmin do what…

I think that Garmin should provide the beta version for both ROW and APAC. It's unfair for APAC customers.

MartinDoolaar There is no way to change the software to make the device think it is another version. The best option you have is to talk to the retailer and explain what is going on.

Pfff, what a shame and what a stupd thing to present two versions to customers. I feel scammed by Garmin! I bought my watch in HK and cannot bring it back now I am back in NL.

Out of curiosity, why do they do different versions? Data licensing? Differrent hardware?

Also, I think there's a difference with GPS in China - possibly in the HW...

The box is not mentioning a different type of version (APAC) at all, so it is just misleading to customers. Garmin should clearly indicate that there are two version of the Fenix Plus series and they should not to be used outside the area it is indicating.
Your comment is really unnecessary and not usefull. Please inidcate how you would start your so called research rather then talking about 'research', If I would have known there were different versions I would have done my research and not have bought this item. Unfortunately back to my 920XT instead, no issues at all (except the horrible looks...)...

I find it very strange that you cannot update the firmware btw... Apparently even the hardware is different. Anyone interested in an APAC version :(??

You can put any additional mapping you want from third party sources though....Its not all doom and gloom lol..

From. Frikart... Talkie Toaster.. OSM.. Bbbike.. etc.. etc...

there's transparent trail and contour maps... you can overlay on other maps to..

Or Satalite imagery and additional mapping from Garmin.

You don't have to use the on board maps.. (I'd still use the pre installed base map) ..you can add any map you want in the right format... I never use the pre installed maps...there not very detailed like other maps(because they cover a vast area) you can download for your own specific country..
