Yet another bug - Battery level stuck at 15% since 8 hours

My battery level ist stuck at 15% since approx. 8 hours of operation in smartwatch mode.
Never had such an issue before.
Firmware version 4.64.
I'll keep on observing that bug...
  • renton82 I have tried to do it that way and no luck. What are you plugging your device into to charge it? Computer, PC or Mac? USB 1,2,3..? Or if you are plugging it into a wall charger, which type, what is the voltage.

What I'm trying to do with all these questions is to figure out what is the key fact I am missing. Plus not everyone is experiencing this too, and the devices I bring in with this issue I can not reproduce here. So, everyone, I'm listening to you, and I care, but can some of you try to give me any small detail that you can think of that might cause your device in front of you be different than mine or someone else that is not seeing this?

Hi mate. Thanks for taking an interest and trying to help. The behaviour of showing 100% battery and then dropping to 90 something percent in reboot, I can reproduce every time on my unit charging from a pc on both USB 2 and USB 3 ports
  • I can reproduce this every time. I have a replacement watch that exhibits the same problem. I am charging them with an iMac. It upticks every time to 100% and if you restart it, you get the correct reading. I also have post activity battery drain. I finished my workout 10 hours ago and the battery dropped more than 13%.

I'm pretty sure he's a product support guy, not a software developer. Getting a big group of engineers to dig through all the code in the hopes of finding a bug is a pretty poor way to find a bug. If you can't reproduce it regularly, is it really a bug? Also, the fact that they are getting watches returned for this "Issue", and then they can't reproduce it on those units, makes it suspiciously like a hardware/environment/use bug rather than a pure coding error. The first step in any troubleshooting or maintenance action is always to "verify the fault".

    Don't agree at all!!
First, it is VERY unlikely, that none of the Garmin internally used watches for development never showed that issue.
Second , they got lots of watched returned because of that issue - why don't they simply inspect them??????????????????
  • I am seeing battery progress jumping all over the place. Charging my watch through my W10 PC, it jumped from 93% to 100%. Taking it off charge, stuck at 100%. Rebooted watch, back to 93%!
  • I have observed this issue on my watch, done some testing, and I've sent Garmin details.

It's not a "always happens" issue and I'm still trying to tease out the issue here to work out exactly what causes it.

Now, I like solving problems (I'm a software dev in the real world), so could those of you who have the issue provide the following for me (in a list as specified):

    - the hardware model and the firmware you are running
    - provide details of how you charge the watch: e.g. Apple iPhone USB Block on 240 volts, 10 watts, or standard USB3 PC port
    - the charge on the watch before you start charging
    - the charge on the watch when you finish charging
    - the charge when you notice it has become stuck
    - the charge when you have rebooted the watch

Would help me get a better picture to start black box debugging this.

Mine is a F5+ sapphire. Using standard USB2 port on a Intel NUC PC running W10.
Started charging at 53%, got to 93% and jumped to 100. Took off charge stayed at 100. Rebooted watch, went to 93.
  • Standard fenix 5+. USB 3 port. ASU’s hero motherboard. Starting charge 4% took off at 100% restarted at 97%. Starting charge makes no difference. It does this every time without fail. I can eventually get it to read 100% if I put it back on charge. Once it shows 100% take off charge, restart and it will show 98% repeat until it shows 100%. It doesn’t bother me apart from the fact I think it’s connected to the post activity battery and shorter than expected battery life
  • I'm wondering if this has anything to do with Garmin Connect?
I've had the "jumps to 100%, but it's really 92%" bug several times, but only when I'm charging on my W10 machine with Garmin Connect installed. I've never seen this bug when charging from a wall port.

And of course the post activity and post music battery drain, but I think that is universal since I've now had 3 devices and all of them act the same after activity and music. 2.4%+ in the hours after, then settles to 0.6% or so.
  • Battery level was stuck at 29% for over a day. After reboot battery level was 38%ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1413487.jpg

I used a wall adapter last night until it reported 100%. Slept overnight with it on and it was still at 100% in the morning. Rebooted and it jumped to 98%.

Mine also jumps from ~90% to 100% when using PC USB charge. Take it off charge, reboot watch back to ~90%.
